Meet Sadie Van of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadie Van.

Hi Sadie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a very musical family, my mom and my sisters are singers and musicians. So I was constantly surrounded by musicians at my mom’s gigs, at the studio with my older sister as she was being developed by Kuk Harell. Both my parents were very supportive of my dreams so we started with American Idol at age 15 and that was a great first experience of what the industry could look like. From then on, I played gigs around LA and met tons of writers and producers. I then went on to sign my first record deal at 19, meeting a bunch of different creators and developed relationships and as the rooms got bigger and bigger I finally got to where I am now. Writing for other artists, and about to release brand new music. Without my families support and the support of all the producers and writers I’ve met along the way I would not be where I am today!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m not sure anyone’s had a smooth road haha, but I am actually very grateful for the struggles. I mean between failed deals, the “almost” moments I’ve had over and over, and feeling like I’ve failed myself in this industry it’s taught me so much. A lot of the struggles really stemmed from imposter syndrome, self doubt and I truly believe God’s timing is perfect. Looking back if anything really happened before now I wouldn’t have been ready. I was definitely too young and naive. Now I have such a solid team around me and people who only want the best for me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always considered myself a creative in so many ways, but I truly am so passionate about being a vocalist, a songwriter and an artist overall. I love songwriting for other people and getting to know their story and putting that into a song. I also love Performing so much, being a vocalist is so important to me and represents me in so many ways because that’s how it all started for me. I’m very proud of how I’ve grown as a songwriter over the years, I think that really came from being in rooms with people who were better than me and learning from them. Also, getting the reps in, this has truly been a 15+ year process. I would say what sets me apart is my ability to adapt in rooms, and to be able to create within every genre.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
My view on risk taking is that is 100% completely necessary not only as a creative but a human. The discomfort that comes with risk taking is what allows you to grow as a person. Putting myself in positions where it scared me or not knowing the outcome has always had a positive return. This industry is so wishy washy and unpredictable so it’s important to take a chance on yourself because at the end of the day we have nothing to lose!
