Meet Rudy Love Jr

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rudy Love Jr.

Rudy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My father and my grandfather were both amazing singers. I have a very big family, and most of them are musical. Its been important to me that I find my own voice, but continuing my family’s legacy has always been the reason that I do what I do. I’ve learned everything from watching them. I first started doing music playing keys in my family band, Rudy Love and the Love Family.

I still go home and play with my family as often as possible, but I moved out west to work as a singer/Songwriter I’ve worked with 100s of different artists/bands and I Am currently performing a lot around town.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Ah, it’s never smooth. I have essentially Stumbled my way through my Music Career. I’ve been homeless a handful of times. I’ve been stuck out on the road for weeks in a broken down car. I’ve had my music stolen. Had lots of folks not pay me for work… I’ve risked nearly everything for opportunities that fell through. Also Living in Los Angeles, with the rent so high it seems to be a constant struggle. I’ve fought with depression. I get homesick almost every day. But to be completely honest. I am still one of the most privileged people I know. I laugh at myself when I list my own personal battles. They seem Trivial in comparison to some of the things I’ve seen my Peers make it through. When I have a problem, I tell my pops. He laughs, then tells me a story about him going through something similar, and it reminds me of how fortunate I am just to be doing what I love to do. Not everybody has that. Some folks make millions and they still don’t feel a sense of purpose.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
About 5 or 6 times a week you can catch me singing at a venue somewhere between Irvine and Santa Barbara. I am still writing, producing & recording, but my main focus has been live performance for the past few years. I like that my job is to entertain. And my favorite part about it is getting to see the effect. My music has on You. If you’re a dancer, I want to make you think. And if you are a thinker I want to see you dance! Self Kenosis is my only objective. I want to be able to give myself away completely. And leave everything on the stage every time I perform. Whether it’s 1 or 1000 people listening…

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve had too many to list. My mother my father and my family deserve to be at the top of the list. Specifically, my best friend Micha. Without her, I wouldn’t have the courage or the strength to keep going. She was the first one who convinced me to come out to LA. People like Martin Luther McCoy or Nikki Leonti-Edgar Patrick Collier. Sophia Taylor Bryan Sullivan Marrque Nunely. They have all been a huge help to me over the years they’ve been a source of inspiration, or introduced me to people and made it possible for me to have a career. Also, there are people who have taught me tough lessons about how not to do business.  I’d also like to thank the folks at dame dash studios.
