Meet Robert Mayfield of East chicago

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Mayfield.

Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
14 yr navy veteran, started doing standup comedy at my last duty station in Corpus christi Texas, My little sister Ashley called me and told me I should try and do standup since the content i was creating on my Instagram was getting alot of attention. Especially from the reaction video I did for the TV show Power. I went viral and I took my sister’s advice and started to going to mesquite comedy club in corpus christi I got in good with the regulars they gave me tips on my set and helped me with techniques and jokes. I stayed consistent using what i learned, I started to get booked out there I start selling t-shirts promoting my brand “makedaworldlaugh” around the base and I had support of my navy friends. Fast Forward I get out the navy move back to Chicago and hit the ground running I was sleeping on my car couch surfing between my mom and sister house. But was still doing open mics. I networked stayed consistent worked on being funny, Ive done movies, and I have podcast called the parlay podcast and I thank god for every opportunity I get

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggles are not getting paid soon as u start. People claiming to have your best interest and dont. comedy producers not paying you people lying and cheating out of money. Shows not selling like u thought and not getting the support from friends and family.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Professional standup comedian/Host/actor/podcaster.
Im know for having alot of energy on stage being animated and bringing alot of energy. My jokes are original and stories are authentic

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Stay consistent , work on being funny and original
