Meet Robert Bui and Kha Truong of Food With Bros in South LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Bui and Kha Truong.

Robert and Kha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We’ve been friends since middle school and we share a love for delicious food. We’re always going out, exploring and eating so we thought it would be a fun idea to start documenting what we ate. That’s when we thought about making a food Instagram blog. It’s helped us to have a place to post our pictures and it’s a good way for people to know where to eat when they’re in the OC or LA area. We both have personal Instagram accounts also, but we didn’t want to flood that with food pictures so having a separate page just for food was a good idea. The things that have helped us the most are being consistent, meeting new people, and networking. Also learning the ins and outs of Instagram has helped also. Things like hashtagging, geo tags and editing are important for our page’s growth.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has definitely not been. We’ve encountered plenty of struggles and obstacles, but we take those as learning experiences in order to help us grow so we don’t make the same mistakes again. There were points when our page wasn’t performing to how we would like and we weren’t seeing any growth and that was quite a big let down for us. Especially when engagement is so important to running an Instagram page. We felt burnt out at one point, but we didn’t let that stop us. In any business, there will be ups and downs, but we try to keep our heads up, keep working hard and have fun with this. We want to enjoy what we’re doing and not have it feel like a chore.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Food With Bros – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We run a food blog on Instagram where we specialize in taking food pictures and post about our experiences with restaurants and food. We share it with our followers so that they have an understanding of what the restaurant is about and if the food is worth eating or not. We also collaborate with food establishments and promote them on our page. That’s a good way for us to try new food and at the same time get more eyes on the restaurants. We’re not sure if we’re differently from other food blogs, but we just try to do things we enjoy and get creative with it. We’re very proud of the fact that we can continue to meet new people. Whether it’s other food blogs or restaurant owners. Socializing and helping out others has been a very enjoyable aspect for us.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We would just like to continue to grow and gain more of a following. Honestly, when we started the page in February, we didn’t think we would be where we’re at right now. It’s been a big blessing and we’ve been grateful for the opportunities we’ve gotten. We’re going to keep doing what we’re doing and stay consistent because I think our followers have enjoyed that. We’ve thought about making a YouTube channel, posting more videos, or even making a merch line, but all of that is still in the works.
