Meet Ro Rockwell of Downtown Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ro Rockwell.

Hi Ro, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi I am born and raised in Cerrritos California, and I attended the number one academi high school in California, but I was more of an artist. I graduated and got my my business degree. I moved to Hollywood and started as a musician who produced and wrote for artists in the hip hop world. My biggest writing credit is Drake – Round of Applause which I am in the video for. But because of publishing isssues ,writing for artists became a pain due to the constant dealings with record labels and I wanted to maintain positive relationships within the industry. I wanted to go further behind the scenes and I started developing webseries and podcasts . I am currently producing 3 podcasts and 1 documentary, which I would love to go into more detail. I find my story powerful because when I first came to Hollywood, there were very few Indian Americans pursuing this path, and very few Asian Americans in general, following a journey in arts and entertainment

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a bumpy road but it has smoothed out a bit as I hit my 30s. The music industry was very frustrating for me and being adequately compensated and credited for my work. Although i received some credits I didn’t receive them all. I am much more comfortable on the film and podcast path.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Currently I am producing podcasts and I work for litt live which was formerly dash radio, and I am a producer of radio shows and podcasts there. I am currently also producing a documentary on flat earth vs round earthers. I am mainly focused on bringing people’s visions to life and giving them the guidance that I have spent 15 years cultivating through the ups and downs of the entertainment industry, and my ultimate goal is to start a podcast network which I am currently developing.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Not to sound cliche, but it’s not to give up and let the darkness and downsides of the business aspects affect what I set out to do. Also it’s the ability to pivot with age and using the lessons learned to ultimately guide me on the road that I was meant for. Which is being a behind the scenes person rather than in front of the camera. Although I started as a model, actor and musician, I am much more comfortable and more affective creatively being behind the camera and collaborating with others to bring their visions and mine to life. I still have my own podcast and radio show but I am navigating and preparing into going full behind the scenes so as I age , I don’t have to worry as much about being in front of the camera .
