Today we’d like to introduce you to Rio Sirah.
Hi Rio, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Long story short, I started body painting because a friend asked me to do it randomly back in 2009. Prior to painting her, I had never painted before but after her, I started painting clothing, murals, and shoes. Bodypaint took off and I did countless shows in Atlanta going into clubs where I wasn’t invited and showing up with people body painted getting booked. Skin wars producer found me a body art competition show. I did season 2 and getting to where I am was a combination, of prayer great risk and sacrifices of job, family and home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No and yes. Yes, because I decided id take whatever pain I need to succeed. No, because I slept in cars, at friend’s houses, lost jobs because people wanted to pay me what they thought I deserved instead of what I was worth. Been cheated, had people duck out the back door with money they owed me for body painting events, people trying to muscle in on my business and rob me street fights, etc. But all in all, I made it so I’m not mad.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for body art, but I specialize in all things art; you name it, I claim it partner. Most proud of what I’m working on now which is combining body art and VR and what sets me apart from others is my supernatural imagination. I’m yet to create my greatest work because I have to create the tools to do it before I can create these art masterpieces.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
In short, what I’ve learned from taking a risk is. One, if you’re too scared to do it, you should do it and two, go where you don’t belong thats where success is.
