Meet Ricky Mendez of MPower Prosperity in Marina del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Mendez.

Ricky, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I believe in progress no matter how small or massive. I was a regional sales director for a billion dollar company and oversaw about $80M in sales all over Southern California. My teams would be successful for a few months then have a bad month and that inconsistency drove me nuts so I did what I believe we all need to do more of – ask for help.

I asked my mentor for help and he said what I was missing was the foundation of success regardless of the field – Mindset and Prosperity Planning. When I started teaching Mindset and Prosperity Planning my reps went from thanking me for their sales careers to thanking me for greater fulfillment with their families and that shift started me on my path of true self-development and contribution.

A little later I hosted a wellness event and woman came up to me and confided in me about some challenges she was having with her family and young children and actually asked if I’d coach her husband. I didn’t do that at the time, but I suggested some simple, easy to follow, strategies to implement and after a couple of months she said it changed the dynamic of her morning and relationship with her kids. Everyone thought I was crazy, but I quit my job ten days later and started my business with this newfound passion and fuel for fulfillment. I became addicted to the feeling of how it felt to help others. Ironically, it’s a selfish thing because it ignites my soul. I finally understood what it meant when my mentors told me -“Ricky, what you do for and unto others, you do for and unto yourself.”

I went from making a lot of money with no expenses to making nothing with a ton of expenses and this is where I got to practice everything I preach – converting fear into passion, converting negative energy into positive energy, looking at my resourcefulness versus my resources, improving my relationship with the people around me, as well as my relationship with money, creating prosperity habits, celebrating the small victories and enjoying the shit out of the journey by acknowledging my progress and focusing on my potential..

Today I get to teach people and businesses all over the world how to overcome, in my opinion, the two biggest dream killers of them all; procrastination and negativity. It’s amazing what our minds are capable of. And especially when they are positive and conditioned to take consistent action.

Earl Nightingale, who was named the Dean of Self Development, called our brains the most marvelous, miraculous, inconceivably powerful force the world has ever known. We all have the power to create and I believe it’s our human superpower and human right to use that power to create the life we desire and deserve and to help others do the same. Literally, the life of our dreams.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Noooooooo it has not been smooth haha. Too many struggles to fit on this page, but some of the major ones were – self doubt, fear, fear of not being good enough, fear of giving up what was good to go for the great, monetary fear, what if no one likes what I have to say, what if no one hires me, financial struggles, struggles with identity and self-worth, less self-care. Obstacles of not having a name out there, no one has heard of me, obstacles of exposure and being on social media, being judged on social media, having to get over myself, not being run by my ego, etc, etc, etc.

I learned there are certain skills one needs to deal with, and rise above those challenges. Those challenges are really omnipresent so our skills to deal with them must also be omnipresent. And it’s like any other skillset in any other trade; we must practice, practice, practice and eventually we get stronger and stronger. I encourage all to remind themselves that it’s not about perfecting these skills, it’s about making progress no matter how big or small. I work on this every single day. And because the world is constantly evolving, we must evolve as well.

This is where mentorship comes in. I cannot suggest strongly enough to seek mentorship. Mentors can be anyone; people you know or don’t know, people you met or haven’t met yet, people who are living or who have passed. But if you want a specific skills set my advice is number 1) Find a mentor you admire who has done what you want to do. Number 2) Pay them. Sometimes, it’s a monetary payment, sometimes it’s your time, but find a way to offer value to them in exchange for the education you can receive from them. When I started investing in myself everything changed and it has been the most valuable education I’ve received with the highest ROI.

Please tell us about MPower Prosperity.
MPower Prosperity is all about self-empowerment and conditioning the mind to overcome negativity and procrastination. Can you imagine what we would accomplish if we were positive and took action?!?

This is where we train people to take the power back in their lives; by simple mind hacks to condition our brains and bodies instead of relying on will power. After we start to alter the course of our own lives we can realize true fulfillment and attack it by helping others and contribution. There is no greater feeling on the planet.

Mindset Fitness teaches people how to implement small tactics that train our brains to take action towards the things we intend to create in our lives like never before. When the mind is clear and on a higher frequency our body has no choice, but to follow. Condition the mind and the body will follow. This is our true specialization. Often times these tactics will be based around the greatest antioxidant on the planet – Gratitude.

I’m most proud of being a “For Purpose” business. Not “for profit” and not “non-profit”, but For Purpose. A mentor of mine taught me this and showed me how to work it my business plan. I have never considered doing it this way before and now my business has an entirely new energy and purpose, which gives me and my teams an entirely new energy and purpose. Amazing. I believe gratitude to be the largest available superpower on the planet. Perhaps a close second is mentorship.  When my first book launches in the fall (Children’s book) for everyone that buys the book we will donate a book to an orphanage. For Purpose.

I believe we are different because we understand that the universe will not reward scale; it will reward consistency so we always focus on the long scale and progress trends more than quarterly and yearly profits. When we serve first we understand that the universe knows no other way, but to serve us back.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved when I’d hear the ice cream truck coming down the street! I wasn’t the fastest kid and was a bit chubby, but when those bells on the ice cream truck rang I turned into Usain Bolt. We always played sports in my back yard and I had a whiffle ball field with lights and a fence and baselines and everything! We event put a triangle in right-center field like Fenway Park. I led all my friends in home runs from the ages of 13 to present 😉
