Meet Reo Wilson of OVMG

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reo Wilson.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began singing at the age of 6 in the church. My father told me that I hit my first note in the microphone at the age of 2, but I honestly can’t remember that far back. My father, Harold Wilson, was a big inspiration for my music career. He always teased me and told me if I didn’t learn how to hit a falsetto, I’d never be great. He was tough.

From there, I took off. I moved to L.A. to follow my dream and to be with my beautiful fiancée, Kamilah. When I arrived to L.A. I had a record deal in play and I knew that I wanted to take over the industry.

I’ve traveled and done big shows with Tamela Mann, Marvin Sapp, Fred Hammond, Childish Gambino, Juicy J., Jeezy, and the list goes on. I’ve also had the chance to walk on the red carpet at B.E.T. weekend with Unlocked Hollywood along with Teyana Taylor, B. Simone, June’s Diary & more which was a great experience.

In the early winter of 2019, I was preparing for my next single release song called “COULD BE”. This song really took me to a different level, which I knew it would. My work ethic, hard work, and dedication all came into play.

I have a mindset like I’m already signed to a label; my competitors are Chris Brown, Usher, Trey Songs & a number of other artist and if I’m not better than them, then I need to leave the game.

I started to position myself to move as a label. I have a full staff that God and I put together over the past 8-9 years that helped my single “COULD BE” reach a certain hype when the song was released. It hit over 130k views on YouTube, over 50k streams on Spotify, along with radio play. I also received a lot of positive feedback from the top DJ’s in L.A. DJ Carisma, DJ WAVY, DJ VIP & DJ HED. Man, it blew my mind. DJ HED called me “LeBron James”. That was dope. Now I’m in the process of recording my album to be more consistent with my work. 2021 is my year. They think that I brought pressure before but they haven’t seen anything yet!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course not, this is hard work and dedication. I wanted to give up so many times because this business is full of snakes and it is also risky.

A lot of money has to be spent and I always have to ask myself “If I stopped today would I regret it”?….. “If I stopped today, how will I be able to break the curse amongst my family”?….. If I stop, I’ll be doing exactly what enemy wants me to do. Anything worth having takes hard work and that’s just life.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have an independent label O.VM.G. and it stands for One Voice Music Group. We specialize in music, acting, and artist development.

This label is what I’m most proud and I didn’t need a hand out. Everything that I’ve accomplished, I did it with my team, from the ground up. What separates us is that we are all young, black entrepreneurs fueled with ambition and ready to be the next Bad Boy of our generation. We put God first and we don’t take no for an answer. We push to be great and nothing less.

What were you like growing up?
I was always smiling and laughing. Goofy, caring, and full of joy. I’d give the clothes off my back just to see someone else happy. People say I was like a magnet; I just always drew people close to me.
