Meet RD Whittington of Luxury Auto Collection in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to RD Whittington.

RD, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from Oak Ridge Military Academy in 2002 and my background is in hospitality management. I am an alumni from Ritz Carlton’s renowned hospitality training program and as a result I developed an innate ability for what appeals to luxury buyers, buying habits and their tastes. I have a passion for luxury automobiles, well you could say cars in general- maybe it’s because it runs in my blood as my family was heavily involved in cars – my uncles were racecar drivers while my grandfather owned a dealership in Phoenix. I started Luxury Auto Collection in 2015 and I have sold millions of dollars worth of cars to some of today’s hottest A-List celebrities from Floyd Mayweather, Jamie Foxx, Tyga, Scott Disick, Taylor Swift and many others. Other than cars, I have a passion for charity and I am involved in a number of different charities some of which are: LA Shriner’s Children’s Hospital and My Friend’s House.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any business starting out, there are some challenges like developing trust and a proof of concept to ensure it is a viable business. Most importantly, I am a high touch person as I have many clients, associates and friends trying to get in touch with me so I make sure that I create a to do list the night before of tasks to complete for the next day so I can move my business forward- if you fail to prioritize, you prioritize to fail. I sometimes consider myself a firefighter as sometimes millions of dollars are on the line in these deals so I have to make sure the facts and details are in order, otherwise it can cost my clients and I a lot of money- I can’t and won’t let that happen ever. My reputation and word are the most important qualities of mine as this has led me to working with well-known celebrities and generate referrals.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Luxury Auto Collection – what should we know?
I sell high end, exclusive and rare automobiles to some of today’s hottest A-List celebrities, executives and UHNWI. In addition to cars, I also broker deals for yachts and private jets- I love flying as I have my student pilot license. As a company, I pride myself on not only being a car broker but being my client’s friend and helping them make one of the most important decisions in their life- which car to purchase and why. In addition, delivering exceptional customer service while having a personal touch makes my clients feel it’s more than a business deal and that is true. It’s not just about the money but it’s the trust that comes with the purchase, my clients are aware that when they do business with me, there is no room for error. I provide a sense of comfort and convenience, for example: one day, I got a call from Travis Barker from Blink 182, and he was leaving to go on tour with Lil Wayne. He needed a car for the household while he was gone, he needed a Range Rover by tomorrow. I found and delivered the car in less than 24 hours- they didn’t have to visit a car dealership or do anything but call me- I remove the friction and save them time.

What separates me from others is my phone is always on as many of my clients operate at night and if I miss a call from them- that could be losing a million-dollar deal, something I never want to happen. Availability, convenience and most importantly I prioritize customer service over money- if I deliver results, the money will eventually come.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Customer service, providing a personal touch and most importantly my word is bond. Other than that, I believe in following my passion which is cars so as a result, it never feels like works. I like meeting new people and I like cars- what more could you ask for in a business and career?
