Meet Peter Menotti of West LA 3D Printing in Westchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Menotti.

Peter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Until recently my company, Modul8tion, specialized in design and marketing services. Eventually we needed to have some 3d printing done for a client. I was using a service in Los Angeles. They had great prints, but their customer service was less than acceptable. So we bought a consumer level 3d printer for our office. I ended up spending most of my time getting it dialed in until we were getting better quality prints than the provider we were using. At that point, I decided to split off a new division that only handled 3d printing; West LA 3D Printing. A year later, here we are working on projects ranging from specialty aircraft part design to medical products to toy prototyping.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part it has been smooth. All we really did was buy some printers, learn how to use them properly, and create a web page. We didn’t even bother with any SEO or advertising; we just had a one-page web site that had content that was extremely pertinent to our business and the corresponding search terms.

Now it’s getting a bit more complicated, as the printers we want to get are in the 50k range instead of the 5-10k range.

I think it’s been so smooth because I’ve started multiple businesses over the last 20 years, and getting a new business up and running on a shoestring budget is kind of a specialty.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with West LA 3D Printing – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in 3d printing and CAD design. We are at our best when working with an inventor or company with an idea, but no proof of concept. Once we understand their vision, we can help them realize it by using our over 30 years of toy and product design experience to not only get their prototype done, but also help them set up the molds and get started manufacturing their product.

We are also the fastest 3d printer in Los Angeles. The reason is we run our printers 24 hours a day. There is always someone monitoring the machines, so if a problem arises it is immediately dealt with. If a print fails at midnight, we start another one going by 12:30 so the next day you still have your prints. Virtually every other printer in this city sends their crew home by 7.

Again, the main reason we started West LA 3D Printing was that the other 3D printers I used gave me what I consider unacceptable customer service. It’s not like it’s that hard to do. You treat the client with respect and courtesy, and get the job done on time. If something goes wrong, fix it and let the client know what’s going on. Never lie to the client and never give a reason to use another shop. If we can’t get their job done, I will refer them to someone nearby that can. I don’t worry about losing any business as 9 out of 10 times the customer is appreciative of us going the extra mile. And almost inevitably, then end up calling us back for something else.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the weather and the fact that I can find anything in the world I might want within a 50-mile radius.

However, I HATE THE TRAFFIC!
