Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Berman.
Paul, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in the Midwest and graduated from the University of Michigan with a mechanical engineering degree.
In my last year of college, Hughes Aircraft flew me to California to interview for work as an engineer in their spacecraft division. The lure of the warm weather as well as an amazing opportunity to be a part of the team designing and building the Galileo Jupiter Probe convinced me to make the move to Manhattan Beach. I worked for 3 years in spacecraft engineering at Hughes Aircraft and then on to Northrop for 8 years designing aircraft structures for the F-20 Tigershark fighter plane, the B-2 Stealth Bomber, and the YF-23 Advanced Tactical Fighter. I returned to Hughes Aircraft to work on a classified satellite, but knew I wanted to start my own business.
The genesis of T2 Design and Prototype started before my work in aerospace. In high school, I became increasingly interested in developing inventions and consumer products. My grandfather, Morris Mendelson, was an engineer and inventor, and I had always admired his intellect and creativity and was proud of his inventions in reverse osmosis, automobile radiators and the navigable dam.
Growing up in Detroit, in the car capital of the world, and marveling at the technology utilized at the Ford automotive factory, had an impact on my career path as well. The constant evolution of science and engineering fields has always fascinated me and this ultimately led to the formation of T2 Design and Prototype. My goal was to create a company that allows inventors to realize their dreams and creations.
Has it been a smooth road?
Entrepreneurship and forming a small business in any field entails multiple challenges and opportunities. In the invention and consumer product business, the overall vitality of the economy, technological breakthroughs and societal and personal trends are always changing which can yield both positive and negative impact. In recent years, social marketing, TV reality shows and the popularity of internet crowd-funding has allowed for the creation of a new category of inventor-entrepreneurs and that has revolutionized the world of inventing, offering exceptional opportunities for T2 Design Corporation and our client inventors…
So, as you know, we’re impressed with T2 Design & Prototype – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
T2 Design and Prototype can help you create products from your invention ideas. T2 Design provides inventors with product design and development, prototyping, patent searching, production engineering and manufacturing. We work with individuals, as well as companies and connect with clients from all over the United States and Canada, as well as working with men and women who are serving overseas in the military.
For over eighteen years, we have been working to help inventors realize their vision of inventing new products. We have clients envisioning new products in an array of fields, including housewares, sporting goods, medical devices, car accessories, beauty products, pet products, cellphone and electronic accessories as well children’s products. For each client, T2 Design puts together a team with the right skill set for the project. We enjoy our work as it connects us with talented and creative individuals either in person, via Skype or Facetime. Some inventors develop virtual prototypes and pursue licensing deals, others have us build physical and manufacturing prototypes. A majority of the inventors protect their inventions with patent applications along the way.
T2 Design Corporation, located in Santa Monica, California, has had the unique opportunity to have participated with some of our clients in developing or promoting inventions on various reality TV series, including “American Inventor” produced by Freemantle Media, the same company that produces “American Idol.” A few of T2 Design clients have also appeared on ABC’s Emmy-winning TV show “Shark Tank.” Two of T2 Design Corporation’s clients worked together and have invented one of the most successfully sold products, mentored by “Shark” and QVC host, Lori Greiner.
T2 Design has seen a new trend of internet crowd-funding offering inventor-entrepreneurs new opportunities in financing. We encourage clients to optimize social marketing, TV reality show visibility and always evolving internet and e-commerce paths.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Los Angeles is an amazing, diverse and techno-savvy community. Computer aided design (CAD) technologies and 3D printing innovations were largely developed in the L.A. region, and the area also headquarters aerospace, entertainment, tech and biotech industries. Having T2 Design and Prototype a part of the larger science and technology and invention communities allows a constant exchange of ideas and provides opportunities for synergy…
