Meet Parisjoy Jennings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Parisjoy Jennings.

Hi Parisjoy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was homeschooled for my sophomore and junior year in high school, so I had extra time to study fashion design at a community college (in addition to my high school studies). I first learned to sew using industrial equipment at the tender age of 14. From then I knew I wanted to dedicate the rest of my life to clothing construction & dressmaking.

Back then, I regularly ditched school to develop my sewing skills by reworking my old clothes and items from thrift stores. I continued to make clothing for myself and friends into adulthood but didn’t take design seriously until meeting Pia Davis of No Sesso in 2016. While working closely together, Pia helped me realize my talent and potential.

I eventually launched my first collection on Depop in 2020 and officially launched my brand 69999 May 2022.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. For starters, my design studio caught fire and flooded in 2020. Everything I owned (including my life’s work) was destroyed; I felt like my life was over. Some days I still feel it’s a setback I have yet to recover from.

Additionally, being a one-woman show can be physically and mentally taxing. Everything at 69999 is done by one person (me!) I operate with very little resources and have to do most of the work myself- from cutting/sewing, to screen printing boxes and web design.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Based in Los Angeles, CA, Paris-joy Jennings is the Founder and Creative behind, 69999 an independent lifestyle brand intersecting fashion and art.

The minimal shapes and bright colors found in my designs are inspired by futurism, cartoons and underground club culture.

All materials are sourced locally from small businesses, with everything hand-cut and sewn from the comfort of my live workspace.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The height of the pandemic brought on extreme supply chain issues, and sourcing raw materials became quite challenging. I was ultimately forced to make more careful decisions about my sourcing strategies while building stronger relationships with local vendors.
