Today we’d like to introduce you to Pantawit Kiangsiri.
Pantawit, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduated with bachelor and master degree in composition at San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) back in 2012, I came to Los Angeles to continue my study at USC (Scoring for Motion Picture and Television) During the program, I had opportunities to compose music for many student film and animation projects. And that’s where I started. Directors and producers of these works became my good friends and I kept working relationships with most of them until today.
After USC, I went to assist other composers for a few months and then be on my own as a solo composer shortly after that. Start from two years ago my wife Zizhu Zhao (CEO and music supervisor of PMP) had an idea to form up a music production company consist of composers, orchestrators, conductors and mixers to take care of then growing number of projects from all over the globe. Since then, PMP have composed and produced original music for Warner Brothers, Sony, Netflix, VEVO, Digital Domain, China Film Group Corporation and many others.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Mostly pretty smooth! Though the toughest time was after USC graduation when I had zero projects for six straight months! Thank god that my USC director friends started to make their own films and let me tag along with them. Plus a huge thanks to my wife who successfully took PMP to Chinese market and since then, we had a steady stream of work coming from there as well. I consider my self very lucky that all of my clients are great people and collaborators which makes my working environment really fun and exciting! One of our sort of struggles is that we have to travel a lot between the US and Asia (I hate being on Airplane!) but other that it had been quite a smooth ride so far.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
PMP is a music production company specializing in creating an original score for all kinds of multimedia projects, range from Film, Animation, TV series, Video Game, Event, Virtual Reality content, Ads and concert. I’m a co-founder and a lead composer with my wife as a founder, music supervisor/producer and CEO. We’ve contributed music for a project such as Netflix’s Chef’s Table, Amazon’s The Expanse, Digital Domain’s Beijing Winter Olympic event, China Film Group’s The Secret of Immortal Code, Iqiyi’s Yokeman etc.
What I’m proud the most is no matter how tough the work is, our working environment still very friendly. We laugh a lot and everyone in the group feels like being a part of a family. I’m blessed to be surrounded by good people!
I would say what sets us apart from others would be diversity. We have composers and music personals from all over the world: USA, China, Thailand, Germany, etc. So our range of music style are wide from Classical to Pop, Jazz to Hip Hop, Electronic to Indigenous music.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Innovative, Sincere, Bold, Persistent and Kind.
