Today we’d like to introduce you to Ollie Cantos.
Hi Ollie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born completely blind, and that shaped a lot of who I am today. Early on, I learned to face challenges head-on, which eventually led me into public service. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to serve at every level of government—even in the White House—always with a focus on creating opportunities and breaking down barriers for others.
One of the greatest joys of my life has been raising my three adopted sons, who are also blind. My mother has been undeniably my biggest supporter and encouragement to keep going no matter what stands in my way. Together, we’ve built a family rooted in love, resilience, and faith.
Now, as a Council member for West Covina, I get to bring all of those experiences back home city of West Covina. My mission is simple: to serve with heart, build community, and help every resident feel seen and included.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all—it’s been full of challenges. Being born completely blind meant that from the very beginning, I had to fight to prove myself. There were people who doubted me, doors that were closed before I could even knock, and moments when the weight of those obstacles felt overwhelming.
But here’s what I’ve learned: struggles are not setbacks, they’re setups for growth. Every barrier became an opportunity to discover strength I didn’t know I had. And when I became the father of my three sons—triplets who are also blind—I realized that my journey wasn’t just about me anymore. It was about showing them, and anyone watching, that no limitation can define what’s possible.
The road has had its twists and turns, but those very challenges shaped the person I am today. They taught me resilience, deepened my faith, and gave me an unshakable commitment to serve others. And if there’s one message I hope people take from my story, it’s this: no matter how tough the road, you are capable of more than you can imagine.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work has always been about service—breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for people who might otherwise be overlooked. I’ve served at the Department of Justice, the White House, and now as a Councilmember for West Covina, but what I’m most proud of is the personal side of my journey—raising my three adopted sons, who are blind triplets. Seeing them grow into strong, confident young men has been the greatest accomplishment of my life.
What sets me apart is that I live the message I share. I know what it’s like to face challenges head-on, and I use those experiences to help others see their own potential.
I specialize in helping people see possibility where they once saw limitation.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes—just a reminder that no matter what challenges you’re facing, your story isn’t finished. I was born completely blind, and there were plenty of moments when people told me what I couldn’t do. But with faith, perseverance, and the support of community, I’ve been able to live a life of service and joy.
I’d encourage every reader to believe in their own potential and to never underestimate the impact they can have on others. We all have the power to lift each other up, to create opportunity, and to make our communities stronger. And if my journey shows anything, it’s that our greatest obstacles can become the very things that shape us into who we’re meant to be.
