Today we’d like to introduce you to Nia Robinson And Andreas Davis Iv
Hi Nia Robinson and, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We first met each other during elementary and middle school when we were both dancers at Debbie Allen Dance Academy (DADA). We became close friends, but eventually drifted apart after some time. Years later, when we were both in high school, we ran into each other and reconnected at the 2022 Los Angeles Tap Festival, which was held at DADA’s new location. It had been so long since we’d seen each other that DADA built an entirely new facility and even became a middle school! However, this place is still where we started — it is still what we’d consider to be our roots. Fast forward in time, December 2023 rolls around, and by this time, we had drifted apart once again. Somehow the universe must’ve known that we needed each other because in the midst of a really difficult time in Andreas’ life, Nia happened to reach out to him with two simple, yet life-changing text messages: “Hey Andreas.” “Are you alive?” She messaged him out of nowhere because she’d noticed his sudden inactivity on social media and was curious about where he was and what he was going through. As it turned out, Andreas was going through issues with his school admission, financial issues, troubles with his car, and on top of everything, he was responsible for taking care of his disabled grandfather. As it turns out, Nia reached out to him while he was amidst the process of putting the pieces of his life back together. She witnessed the journey that he was on, grew an extreme admiration for his resilience, decided that she wanted to accompany him in both his struggles and his successes (and he wanted to do the same for her), and the rest is history.
In terms of where we are today, seeing as we both share a love and passion for dance and performing arts, and we both adore this about each other, we established a goal to see how far that passion might take us as a team. We began our relationship while Nia was away at school, so for a while, it was merely a shared dream for us to dance together and twirl around each other as a couple in love. And since we’re both naturally performers, it became a shared dream for us to do what we love in front of an audience. So now, despite any naysayers and despite any trials or tribulations that we may experience individually or as a couple, we are determined to watch our shared dreams come to fruition.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road at all. But that’s not to say that the struggles along the way haven’t been worth the overall journey.
The two of us have faced individual struggles; struggles as a couple, such as long distance; and struggles as new content creators.
INDIVIDUAL STRUGGLES:
Andreas: Depression and Grief. I recently lost my grandfather while I was in the process of moving to live by myself for the first time. This tragedy put me in states of both depression and grief. Work and finances were also an issue, which I was thankfully able to overcome. And even though I’m still going through depression, working together with Nia really helps keep me strong through everything.
Nia: Navigating how to support Andreas in his depression and grief. I had never been in a situation where I was so close to someone, yet felt so far due to the internal struggles that they were facing. I was (and still am) ambitiously determined to help him in any way possible. I knew I couldn’t bring his grandfather back and I knew I couldn’t just ask him to “choose happiness” each day with all of the negative feelings that he had swirling inside of him. All I could do was be there as his clutch and his pillar, and use the fact that he loved and cared about me so much to motivate him to take care of himself when I wasn’t there. Thankfully, remaining as my loving self helped to remind him of who he is and brought him back to his loving, sensitive, goofy, headstrong, and exceptionally resilient self.
STRUGGLES AS A COUPLE:
Two of our biggest struggles as a couple are being partly long-distance, and having to believe in ourselves and be our own biggest supporters and fans since most aren’t overly supportive of people in relationships. The latter is quite self-explanatory, but the former is where things get complicated. Content creation is in and of itself a challenging responsibility to uphold. So being so far apart makes it all the more difficult. However, this struggle really forces us to tap into our creativity to figure out how we can make the best of our situation. Initially, we decided to just make loads of content while we were with each other for the summer so that we’d have things to post while apart. But now, we’re in the midst of attempting to be even more creative by coming up with innovative ideas of videos to make while we’re physically separated.
BEING NEW TO CONTENT CREATION:
This is a struggle because, as new creators, things always seem to move quite slowly on our end, yet extremely rapidly in the world of social media and content creation. Trying to keep up sometimes feels impossible, especially when we post a viral video because keeping that traction as small creators is not easy. That said, coming up with more ideas to keep the traction is definitely something we are constantly working towards. In addition, being new content creators is also a struggle because we’re having to learn things like how to stay on top of trends, how to “beat the algorithm,” and how to attract the right audiences all on our own. And on top of that, the dynamic of how people use one social media platform is oftentimes very different from the last. No amount of tips that we see online can get us exactly to where we need to be either because we are still figuring out who we are as content creators and influencers. The trajectory that we choose to go on and stick to will likely make all the difference, so right now, figuring that out is amongst the hardest things we have to do. Lastly, we feel as though a larger support system is definitely something that we need, but is slightly difficult to obtain as small creators, and especially as creators making couple content. We try to use our individual accounts as extra ways to put ourselves out there, but we can only get so far with that. What we really need is to be around the right people at the tight times in order to network and make significant connections. But getting into the right doors isn’t always the easiest thing to do in this industry and field of expertise.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a team, we are content creators — potentially dance influencers. As individuals, we specialize in our abilities to love each other endlessly and move through life with optimism for the future that we are building together.
More technically, though, as a team, we specialize in tap dance. We hope to aid in building a larger community of tap dancers by bringing more attention to the craft with our videos. And while tap dance is our main and most favorite style of dance to do together, we also hope to use other styles of dance to promote the positive and uplifting aspects of the dance community in general that are sometimes overshadowed by the negatives.
Moreover, we are most proud of each other. Everyday, each of us accomplishes something spectacular, big or small, and we make sure to let each other know that we are proud of each other. And while we’re still working out the nooks and crannies of our content, such as how consistently we post and the kind of content we can create while amidst some of our more difficult obstacles (like being long-distance half of the time), we are dedicated to spreading our message of love, support, and passion through the endless love, support, and passion that we have for each other. It is also our mission to share our joy and our adoration for dance and each other.
That being said, we are also most proud of our synergetic resilience as a couple. There isn’t one obstacle that we’ve faced in our journey to being influencers and content creators that we haven’t either overcome or been able to come up with strategies to overcome. In spite of our sometimes radically opposing personalities, we’re able to put our heads together in order to work towards a common goal, which is to attain fruitful success by sharing what we love with the rest of the world.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most don’t know our story of how we know each other and how we started our relationship. Some might even say we kind of just popped out, LOL!
Most also don’t know that Andreas is the fourth Andreas Davis in his family, and that he is Native American Indian.
Lastly, most don’t know that we do what we do purely out of love for each other and our craft. Our motto is that “The money will come. What matters is our genuine happiness and our personal enjoyment of the content that we create together.” At the end of the day, we just want to put a smile on our audience’s faces and act as a reminder to them that true love still exists and is reasonably attainable in this modern world.
