Meet Nate Parker of A Gentleman’s Kit in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Parker.

Nate, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up in the Midwest, the codes of chivalry, good character and investing properly in long-lasting things was ingrained in me from a young age. In my encounters with other men in both my work and personal life, I’ve earned a great respect for many who were not raised the same. I would be asked often advice on how to better their actions and lifestyle in both their personal and professional lives. Seeing an opportunity to help others, while honoring the cultural lessons from my upbringing, I founded A Gentleman’s Kit. It’s a place to get the pieces of knowledge and advice for every Gentleman to fold into their personal toolkit, as a way to live, act and dress better through life.

My goal is to help men gain confidence in themselves through dressing well, learning new skills and bringing back manners and respect. I want to pass on the knowledge I’ve gained from my upbringing and the challenges I’ve faced throughout my life that has helped me gain the confidence in myself. Confidence can shape a man on what he becomes in life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When A Gentleman’s Kit was formed from a dream, I had no clue how much work it would take to be successful. Having a full-time job, I quickly realized that my first challenge was finding time to devote to it. Writing blogs, posting on Instagram on a daily basis, and learning new skills throughout this process has been extremely challenging, but I’ve grown so much as a person.

I never was a great writer, which was a huge challenge, but being forced to do it on a daily basis has now made me develop a skill I never knew I had. Another challenge has been not having unlimited funds to hire help or buy supplies for the business. But, it has made me resourceful and made me let down my pride to ask for help. All of these challenges have made me grow as a man and I am truly grateful for that!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
A Gentleman’s Kit is a guide of information and histories of products, lessons in character and etiquette in social settings and personal grooming, skills and accessories. It’s the ultimate resource for character advice and knowledge for the modern Gentleman. I’m now branching out the business to personalized and custom suits for every Gentleman, adding another piece to the toolkit.

Two main things that set me apart from others is my Instagram and my outlook on dressing. Since Instagram is so important for a business, I wanted to make it special. I knew that meant teaching myself Photoshop and Lightroom from hours and hours of YouTube.

From learning Photoshop, I could do what I call a splash of color. All the background of my photos is black and white with a splash of color with me and my outfit. The second thing that sets me apart is coming up with sharp stylish outfits on a budget. My mission is to be transparent on the clothes I have so every guy knows they can dress well no matter how much money they make.

The thing I am most proud of is learning Photoshop on my own. There was a lot of trial and error and blood sweat and tears but was all worth it with all the cool things I can do.

What were you like growing up?
I was an only child who loved playing basketball, track and field, and cross-country. In high school, I became known as the class clown and that was the beginning of gaining confidence in myself. My mother from a young age always believed in me and I know that has helped me tremendously in now forming A Gentleman’s Kit.
