Meet Nashawn Raines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nashawn Raines.

Nashawn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started making music at the age of 14, recording music in my dad’s friend’s home studio. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to get the job done and enough for me to sharpen my skills. It wasn’t until I turned 18 and graduated high school when I realized my skills for singing and rapping had evolved over the years. Because of an ACL injury during my last year of high school during a pre-season game, I was forced to forget about football and playing in college wasn’t an option anymore. Hence, I focused my attention on music again after dealing with depression for a long time due to football dreams ending.

One of my best friends on the football team linked me with a cousin whom he knew was heavy into music. With his cousin’s connections, I was linked to one of Chicago’s best studio engineers whom I ended up recording with and eventually got the chance to put my skills to the test. After I recorded a few songs with him, I knew I could turn this into something. I ended up picking up on a few of the basic techniques for engineering and ended up getting my home studio. I recorded myself for years before releasing music because I wanted to come with industry-ready music. I was never bias at all and could always identify my weaknesses.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not a smooth road at all. Most of my struggles came from being around the wrong people during the come up. All of them were related to music but something I could’ve done without, but you live and you learn. I don’t regret it.

Please tell us about your music.
I’m is mainly known for singing, but its a lot more work that goes into what I do that others don’t see. I specialize in the writing and engineering part of the music, putting things together, the production. People all the time tell me that don’t know I record myself until the come around me during the process. That gives me a big head start over a lot of people and saves money on studio time. That’s a big thing that sets me apart. I get to be as picky as I need to be on my own time. I get to take a month on a song if I need to.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plan for the future is to grow as an overall artist. Winsome Grammy’s and change some lives.
