Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadya Vysotskaya.
Nadya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve loved photography since my childhood. My father had a film camera and developed negatives by himself. Sometimes I took his camera to take pictures of my dolls and toys, and it was one of my favorite “games”. I got seriously interested in photography in 2009 and very soon my hobby turned into a steady job. I fell in love with fashion photography and really enjoyed taking pictures for advertisements, look books, and model portfolios.
In couple years, I realized that I love sincere emotions more. I focused mostly on lifestyle photography and weddings, but I didn’t give up fashion. Thus, I became a generalist photographer. I do almost all types of photography, except product and real estate. I love working with people and capturing important moments in their lives.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m originally from Moscow, Russia. Despite the fact that competition in Moscow was really high, I always had a lot of clients and almost all of them became regulars. In 2014 Russia got into a financial crisis and people’s income reduced by half almost overnight. Everybody began to save money and I had to lower my prices to stay afloat. It got hard sometimes but I didn’t give up and kept on doing my most favorite thing in the world. Last year my husband and I won a Greencard and we decided to move to Los Angeles. California is such an amazing place and my photography business really goes well, despite the fact that we live here for 5 months only. Of course, I miss my Moscow clients, but some of them come to Los Angeles for vacation and ask me to be their photographer.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nadya Vysotskaya Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I do almost all types of photography, from weddings and lifestyle to fashion and headshots.
Since I recently moved to Los Angeles, I’m working on building my client base and try to keep prices as affordable, as possible. Also, I’m known for my high efficiency, I provide corrected lifestyle pictures the next day and wedding photos in 3 days. I initially try to use the right settings, lighting, and composition so that I don’t have to do a lot of post-production afterward.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’ve wanted to become a film photographer for a long time. I plan to buy a film camera this year and finally make this big change in my career. I’m sure I will enjoy this experience and love photography even more.
