Meet Monae Ferguson of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monae Ferguson

Hi Monae, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello, my name is Monae Ferguson. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. After graduating high school I attended college at St. Cloud state university where I obtained an associates degree in arts and Bachelor of science in Mass Communications. My area of focus was television broadcast specifically. While in college I was able to executive produce “The Culture” which aired to over 33,000 homes in central Minnesota. I was also among two students in the entire state to receive a paid internship at CBS WCCO-News in Minneapolis. Ever since childhood I’ve had a passion for storytelling and visual arts. I was fortunate to have a strong family support system which largely included my Mom, Tamiko Lawrence and two aunts Sonora Thirdgill and Andrea Lawrence; and brother Terrence Lawrence. Along with a whole host of other aunts, uncles and cousins. I moved to Atlanta, Georgia where I began my video producing career. I started out as a production assistant and quickly moved up the ranks as a production manager for artists that include Lil Baby, T.I., Tokyo jetz and more all under the supervision and mentorship of notable producer Randy Marshall. I eventually went on to produce and direct my own projects after leaving Georgia in 2021 and moving back to my hometown, Portland Oregon. There I worked on many different projects some of which featured NBA Star Damien Lillard or stage name “Dame Dolla”. I also worked briefly as a videographer for Providence hospital assisting the team during live brain surgery. In February 2024 I moved to Los Angeles with the hopes of pursing my content creator career. My social media @monaeferg, is the platform that I am able to showcase my creative storytelling abilities by giving an up close look at the the trials and tribulations of trying to make it in LA. I also currently work as a photographer at Disney and a Clinical Care Partner at UCLA. This journey has been amazing and I can’t wait to show you all what’s next. With Love, Monae Ferguson aka Mofo

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The pandemic, job uncertainty, going free-lance. Finding a team. Relocating.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work as a clinical care partner at ucla and a photographer at Disney. Along with my content creator career online. My social media content is centered around wellness, vlogging, lifestyle and trying to better ourselves through community. I’m most proud of starting my YouTube channel. It took me a long time to feel confident enough to not only host my own show, but I produce, edit and write it as well. I think what sets me a part from others is that I believe that everyone deserves to be heard and helped when they need it. When I was preparing for college, I had no idea about financial aid or even how to navigate being alone on campus. When I moved to LA, I had no clue where I should live or how hard it was to get a job. I love giving my fans knowledge from myself and my community to ensure nobody has to face the same obstacles as me. Game is to be taught not sold.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Keep God first and yourself second.
