Meet Mila Zambrano of Skin Bar by Mila in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mila Zambrano.

Mila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a 32 years old Latina born in Quito, Ecuador. I moved to California eight years ago and proudly became an American three years ago.

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Public Affairs with a Minor in Human Resources. I started my journey in the Beauty Industry as a Free Lance Make-up Artist back in 2016 when I decided to learn how to do makeup when my own Makeup Artist didn’t show up to do my makeup for my wedding. Shout out to my best friend for doing my make up and saving the day! Since then, I decided to learn about makeup and shortly enough, I fell in love! Later that year, I freelanced and did makeup for a photoshoot at Milk Studios and had the chance to work on Dermatologists, Nurses and Doctors. I had the pleasure to re-visit one of my long time dreams of becoming an Esthetician when talking with Dermatologists on set and felt inspired to follow my dreams and leaving the corporate world. Skin has always been something I was interested since I was a little girl, but I never went for it… I just went with the “flow” and did what everyone else around me did and pursue the corporate world.

I took a big chance and got my Esthetics License and it has been the best decision I have ever made. My passion for skin and making people feel good and confident about themselves is so rewarding. After working for several companies in the industry, I decided that I wanted to start my own business and that’s how Skin Bar by Mila started.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a Solo Esthetician has been a learning process for sure, but I can honestly understand now when people say that they feel passionate about what they do and how much they love it.

I will have to say that one of my biggest challenges is trying to find more balance between my home hours and my business hours. When you love what you do, you can talk about it for hours and I can talk about skin 24/7. As a Solo Esthetician, I don’t have a staff to help me out with any administration work, so I find myself wearing different hats in my business. I create my content, I take my pictures, I do my budget, virtual consultations, follow up with clients, I do it all. That has been a learning curve for sure, but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. Now that I have a system that works, everything runs more smoothly.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have been in Long Beach for eight years now, its truly hard to JUST choose one thing that I love about this city. But, if I must choose one, it will be the amazing community we have. People in Long Beach want to shop small and support local businesses; they care about supporting each other and I find that very special and unique.

As of now, I don’t have anything I dislike from this city, seriously! I feel safe to walk everywhere, you have the beach nearby, and you also get city night vibes if you decide to go for a date night! We have it all!
