Meet Micah Parker of ParkedView Productions in Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Parker.

Micah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I would have to say my passion for writing all started from my parents. I began writing encouraging poems for my friends based on our conversations. Then my mom started asking me to write poems for her friends. She would tell me their qualities and then I would construct a personalized poem for them. I never thought much of it, until I wrote a poem that made my father cry. I overheard my father in the basement grieving the passing of his mother. Once I found out the details of my father’s sadness. I went upstairs and wrote a poem as if his mother was speaking to him from the heavens. He cried again, and that was the day, I realized God gifted me the skill to write.

Even when I realized I could write, I still needed to convince myself. So what I did was change my Instagram from belikemic to writemicwrite. So subconsciously I was telling myself that I am a writer and I had to write. Sounds pretty trivial but that was my turning point, because it forced me to live up to my name.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first year in LA was rough, I had to find my bearings. Within three months in LA, I received a three-day notice violation on my door. That letter had me shook. I couldn’t believe I was about to leave LA in under three months. I couldn’t let that happen. I made a call to my brother who was kind enough to lend me some money. I sold some items, found a couple of jobs and before you know it, I had the money for the rent. I keep that notice in my wallet to serve as a reminder. I figured out how to finesse my banking account and pay my rent, so I would never receive a notice. I would throw my account into the negative, just enough to where the bank would still let my rent payment go through. Not the best solution, but it worked (Kanye shrug).

I also had times I didn’t have money to buy food. I would walk into Yogurtland and Trader Joe’s for samples. A couple of strawberry froyo samples would hit the spot! Now from the outside looking in, I was looking bad. At one point a couple of friends told me that I needed to go back home to Atlanta. Going back to Atlanta wasn’t even an idea for me though. I knew that God made a way for me when I received that three-day notice, so he would now. I was meant to be here in LA. The struggles were just growing pains that I had to endure.

Before you know it, I landed a position as a writer on Amazon web series, GodComplx.

ParkedView Productions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I’m a freelance writer in the process of starting my own production company, ParkedView Productions. The purpose of my company is to tell stories of diversity, that are relatable, thought-provoking and empathetic. I want to put out stories that not only pull at your heartstrings but take you on a roller coaster of emotions. Films that remain on your mind days after you’ve watched the movie. That’s my goal, oh and to win a couple of Oscars.

Be on the lookout for my short film, “27.”

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
That’s a great question. Right now, being able to pay rent every month in LA is a success. lol. Gotta embrace the small victories ya know!

I would define success as doing what you love, living a purposeful life, being an inspiration, and when everyone in your circle is winning. My friend Kevin always says, “I just want to do dope s**t with the people I love… I couldn’t agree more.

Also, being able to take care of my parents, as they took care of me. I want to spoil them, they deserve it all.
