Hi Melanie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey in the beauty industry began with a deep passion for creativity and self-expression. Growing up, I was always captivated by the transformative power of makeup—not just as a way to enhance beauty but as a means to build confidence and tell unique stories. Inspired by my surroundings in Los Angeles, where culture and creativity thrive, I knew I wanted to carve out my own path in this vibrant world.
After honing my skills and earning certifications, I joined Glamsquad as a professional makeup artist. Working with a diverse range of clients has allowed me to understand the nuances of individual beauty, from natural, everyday looks to glamorous red-carpet transformations. Along the way, I’ve collaborated with amazing people, building a loyal client base and a reputation for creating looks that reflect each client’s personality and needs.
My mission is to continue empowering clients to feel their best—whether they’re heading to a wedding, an event, or simply celebrating themselves. Through every brushstroke, I aim to leave a lasting impression, not just on the surface, but in the confidence they carry forward.
I’ve also had the privilege of creating stunning looks for some of Los Angeles’ most prestigious events, including the Grammys, Golden Globes, Emmys, and the wider awards circuit. It’s an honor to contribute to moments where beauty meets history and artistry shines at its brightest.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into the artist and person I am today. As a first-generation Mexican-American, I grew up watching my parents work tirelessly to provide for our family, which instilled in me a strong sense of resilience and determination.
In the early years, I felt the pressure to follow a more traditional path, so I tried college, unsure of what I wanted to pursue. But deep down, I knew I had a passion for creativity and making people feel confident in their own skin. Eventually, I decided to take a leap of faith and dive into the beauty industry, fully committing to this passion.
When I moved to Los Angeles, I had nothing but a dream and an unwavering belief in myself. Those early years were tough—I worked odd jobs to make ends meet while trying to build my skills and break into the competitive beauty industry. There were moments of doubt and setbacks, but I never gave up. Every experience, no matter how small or challenging, taught me something valuable and pushed me closer to my goals.
It’s taken years of hard work, grit, and determination to get to where I am now, but every struggle has been worth it. Today, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I carry the lessons from those early days with me in everything I do.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been a mix of curiosity, creativity, and connection. I was the kind of kid who paid close attention to everything around me, soaking in details and finding beauty in the little things. At the same time, I was naturally social and extroverted—I loved meeting new people, hearing their stories, and finding ways to connect with them.
Creativity was woven into everything I did. Fashion, art, and makeup were always a part of my life, even at a young age. I would spend hours experimenting with colors, sketching designs, and finding ways to express myself through different mediums. I loved learning, whether it was discovering new techniques or exploring how others used creativity to tell their stories.
Hard work was a value instilled in me early on, and it became part of who I am. Whether it was school, helping my family, or pursuing my passions, I always gave my all. Growing up, I learned the importance of being noble and staying true to myself, which has shaped the way I approach life and my work today.
