Hi MEGAN , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Megan Pickett. I am a mother of 2 young girls and a brand-new business owner in Burbank, CA. After being completely burned out by the entertainment industry after 17 years, I made the tough decision to leave my career behind, take a chance on myself, and open my own business!
In my former career I was lacking flexibility, time for family, a wholesome atmosphere, and gratification for my work. I was stressed, depressed, anxious and felt like nothing could change for me.
I knew what I had to do. I needed to be in charge of my schedule, my decisions, and be surrounded by other parents who just wanted the best for their children.
I worked early mornings and late nights after bedtime developing a concept for a business where children can come to play, the community can gather, and moms have a place to meet new friends and find support. After over a year of planning, touring endless locations, meeting with city authorities, and learning some hard lessons, I arrived at “Castle & Crown.”
“Castle & Crown” is a fairytale-inspired play space where children can immerse themselves in a fantasyland of handcrafted kid-size castles, storybook scenery, and hands-on exhibits designed to spark their imagination and creativity. We provide a clean and calm environment for parents and kids to make magical memories together.
The custom-built pieces in this magical space were handmade by industry set-designer and builder, Cory Lennon of Lennon & Co. He and his team took my vision and brought it to life.
When children and parents alike come inside our play space, they are all in awe of these gorgeous structures.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding the courage to quit my job was the hardest part. Believing in myself when I was in a deep depression was nearly impossible some days, but glimmers of hope made it happen.
Then finding a location that worked for my business structure turned out to be much harder than anticipated. Landlords didn’t want to take a chance on a first-time business owner. City restrictions ruled me out of other locations, and parking requirements were shockingly one of my biggest road blocks.

“Castle & Crown” is a whimsical fairy-tale destination filled with kid-size play structures and toys designed to spark creativity and imaginative play.
An extensive amount of thought and love has gone into every element of the play space, the party room, craft room, and the gift shop.
When kids walk in, the look on their faces says it all.
We are a play space with a craft room, a gift shop, a the ultimate destination for kids birthday parties and princess tea parties.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
