Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Brooke.
Megan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I “fell” into glamour photography when I was about 20 years old. I am an artist. I’ve always had the artistic eye, and always loved photography. I picked up my first camera at 18, and instantly fell in love. From there, I started shooting everything from scenery to family portraits, and found that glamour photography was my niche. I then started shooting friends and posted trade shoot casting calls on social media to gain more experience and build my portfolio. After a while I was able to shoot with models with large followings on Facebook and Instagram and from there, my business took off. Though I got the majority of my clients from word-of-mouth, social media definitely helped get the word out.
I am also a makeup artist, and introduced a makeup add-on to my photo shoot packages, which became a popular choice for my clients. Soon, I was doing makeup for just about every photo shoot I did (how’s THAT for multi-tasking).
I feel so lucky and fortunate to be able to do what I do. I feel I never have to work, because my job is that much fun. I enjoy meeting new clients and developing a relationship that brings them back for more photo shoots!
Has it been a smooth road?
Though I am a Southern California native, and grew up here, I did start my photography business in Utah. My family moved there when I was just about out of my teens. I had 4-5 years to start and grow my business and make a name for myself. After I moved back to California, it was hard to ramp up my business again, since I wasn’t able to do it full-time anymore. I shot here and there, mostly on the weekend. I would also travel back to Utah frequently to continue booking shoots. I took “maternity leave” from photography until just recently, and am finally back to booking photo shoots again. I have missed it so much!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Megan Brooke Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a photographer and makeup artist that specializes in glamour, maternity, and boudoir. I feel I bring something new, unique, and exciting to the world of glamour photography. I have a passion for combining my love of photography and beauty with my knowledge of makeup and fashion.
I have been published in numerous catalogs, magazines, and other print all over the U.S. and Internationally, and have worked with well-known companies including UGG Australia. Also, my photos have been featured on national television, including The Dr. Phil Show.
I feel what sets me apart from others is, first and foremost, I am a female photographer in a sea of male photographers, so it makes models feel a bit more comfortable shooting boudoir and sexy photos with a fellow female. Second is the fact that I provide the hair & makeup for my models.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Because I am a new mom, I will focus a bit more on shooting maternity. I am also starting a lifestyle blog that will feature my photography, new mom tips/ stories, and beauty.
