Meet Mayumi Sakai of Kirei Life Therapy in Korean Town

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayumi Sakai.

Mayumi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I never thought that I would become a hypnotherapist. But I experienced some bad times in 2009, and they continued for a few years. I tried to believe I was happy that I could still be satisfied, but I never felt complete. My heart was about to break. I worked at the office of a neurologist for several years, and I saw a lot of people who had anxiety, stress, pressure, and an unhappy mood hanging over them. So I knew how these feelings and situations have influence on people and change them.

I went to traditional counseling first, but it didn’t work for me. Then I found hypnotherapy. I didn’t know exactly what hypnotherapy was, but I had some ideas already. After I did some research – what to do, how it worked, and the many details involved – I finally went to see a hypnotherapist. I was nervous, but I thought: “Whatever happens, I’m ready to accept it to move forward from being stuck in the spot I’m in.”

After I had success with my own treatment, my hypnotherapist recommended that I should consider becoming a hypnotherapist myself. I was surprised to hear that, but it was also encouraging, so I decided to go forward on this path. At the same time, I had a chance to meet a clairvoyant who told me that my next job, hypnotherapy, would match my personality and that I’d finally be satisfied. I was convinced it would be my turn to help other people who struggle, want to be better, and desire to change.

I got my license as a hypnotherapist and told my psychotherapy friends about it; they asked me to counsel them first. Each of them had personal problems and concerns about something. So my first clients were pro psychotherapists; they made me nervous because they are all professionals. But I tried my best, kept counseling, and gave them curative hypnotherapy. They all were able to achieve positive results, and they often refer their clients and friends to me who need hypnotherapy. I meet new clients through former clients and people knowing about me. I am delighted.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a smooth road in terms of my experience and development as a hypnotherapist. There are no textbooks to outline a straight path that everyone can follow – you have to find your own steps to go forward. The most significant challenge for me and for each new client is when we first meet face to face. It might seem to others that this is an easy part and it’s the same each time, but it’s a unique experience when that connection begins. I receive many precious moments from these relationships.

Kirei Life Therapy – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I provide hypnotherapy and reiki (energy healing). I use my skills to guide my clients through their issues with subconscious mental anxiety, depression, panic, losing weight, quitting smoking, healing, grief therapy, early childhood traumas, unhealthy habits, past lives, and so on. The more I learned about the subconscious mind, the more I realized how much people could benefit from knowing what’s going on within themselves, in the spaces they might be afraid to explore. So now I have clients in America, Japan, and some other countries. I do counseling visits for people who find it hard to go out and online sessions for clients living in other countries. I feel so proud when I see my clients overcome their past selves and emerge as someone new.

For my work, I feel the most important thing is communication skills – not talking but listening, and listening with compassion. Most people have the right answer already in their minds, but life and circumstances have complicated their thoughts so much that seeing the answer clearly becomes difficult. You probably already know what will make you happy, but something is causing you to stay stuck. Letting people talk it out little by little eventually leads to a clearer mind, and that’s why listening is so important, so I can stay in step with them and lead them to find their own energy to take action. By communicating, we take the journey together, and when my clients find their inspiration inside themselves, that’s when I’m happiest.
