Meet Maya Lynne Robinson of Lit Feng Shui and Personal Transformation in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Lynne Robinson.

Maya Lynne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have worked for everyone in Human Resources, from the government in Washington DC to Fortune 500 beauty companies in New York City to the fashion industry in Los Angeles. My job was to listen; to find out if people were who they said they were and could do what they said they could. My job was to “read” people. I was great at it. By 26, I was running the Human Resources department of the Hay-Adams Hotel; it’s right across the street from the White House.

Over time, my relationship with employees always became personal. I care about people. But work became about the “bottom line.” Work became about numbers and not nurturing talent. That included me.

I was working, for a year, for a start up in Santa Monica and I hadn’t taken a vacation yet. I had the highest on-boarding numbers in California consistently, but no one wanted to listen to how I got the most qualified and quality candidates. One day, I went on vacation; trying to relax from the stress of the 20 hour work day. I was fired during that vacation; told that I wasn’t a good “cultural fit” for the company. No warning, never a write up, never a problem. I knew then and there that I would never work for anyone again.

Almost two years later, I have created a company that doesn’t nurture numbers and technology, but nurtures human connection and personal growth.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. The same people who took my help for free didn’t think there was value in my paid services. I had a difficult time getting clients the first year.

Also, soulpreneurship is competitive; it took me a while to find my niche.

LIT is a Feng Shui and personal transformation company. I offer Feng Shui consultations. I also offer Soul Sessions, which helps people find their life purpose and Check Ins, which are accountability phone calls, as often as they need for continued affordable support once you’ve created your life purpose foundation and goals.

I am here to offer you the tools to heal yourself. People should not depend on others for self-growth, merely guidance. I am of the mindset that when you have accountability and collaboration, your level of success at making positive changes in your life, is greatly increased.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel Los Angeles is a city that definitely needs this. We are so technologically connected that we forget to connect with ourselves, with our environment. Example: People would rather take pictures of their food and share over social media than savor the bites in the moment and the people they dine with. For us to be so technologically connected, we are a very disconnected city, at times.

I recommend anyone starting a holistic-based business to start in Los Angeles. LA is a great city for these services. But, if you’re going to go into business for yourself, make sure you are an organized, creative and self-motivated person. Having a great support system is also extremely beneficial.
