Meet Mantey Twins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mantey Twins.

Mantey Twins

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We moved from Ghana in Western Africa to the United States with our mom and our two older brothers (who are also identical twins) a couple of years ago to join our dad here. We began dancing in 10th grade of high school doing show choir. We realized we had an affinity for dance and began seeking opportunities to grow our talent and to use it to encourage others. We taught three high school show choirs, worked at the Miami Valley Ballet Theatre (MVBT) in downtown Hamilton, Ohio, teaching ballet kids open-style choreography, and we also worked with several after-school programs to provide dance instruction for kids in kindergarten and grade school. When TikTok began to take off, we weren’t really interested at first, nevertheless at the advice of some close friends, we created an account.

Three years later, we sit at 1.3 million followers — it is insane how much we’ve grown and how our social media presence has evolved over time. Because of our unique story and joyful demeanor, we’ve had some crazy opportunities come our way, from collaborations with different brands to being invited to be dancers for Jason Mraz’s “I Feel Like Dancing” music video (check out the kitchen scene ;)). Everything we have accomplished thus far, we could not have done on our own. It is only by God’s grace and the loving support our family. There is more to come, so WATCH OUT AMERICA!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We’d be lying if we said things have always been easy. Social media can be brutal at times. People don’t always say the nicest things. What we have learned is that in order to overcome such obstacles, you really have to know who you are and hold fast to your identity, or others will determine it for you. Being Christians, we’ve always held on to the truth of who God says we are, despite the opinions of others, and that has kept us grounded and untouched by the shifting sands of people’s expectations. We have always been ourselves — some people like it and others don’t. That is perfectly okay. The goal was never to please everyone. Our hope is that we can bring a smile to anyone who sees us. If people can be encouraged by that, even just for a little bit, I think we’ve all won.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are both collegiate graduates from the University of Cincinnati. Alvin graduated with a biology degree and is currently in his 3rd year of medical school pursuing a joint MD-MPH degree. Kelvin graduated with a degree in biomedical engineering and currently works at the Heart Institute of Cincinnati Children’s (the number 1 children’s hospital in the nation) as a segmentation developer, where he utilizes patient data to create 3D anatomical models of patient hearts for use in surgical pre-planning and preparation. Despite working full-time, we discipline ourselves to give as much as we can to what we are building on social media.

Unlike other personalities, we are not full-time content creators. We are balancing it all with work, medical school, and serving at King’s House Christian Center in Fairfield, Ohio. It is not easy, but it is possible, and we are proof that with God’s help, you can do anything.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
We mentioned this earlier, but fun fact: our parents had two sets of identical twins so we are not the only Mantey Twins. Alfred and Godfred are also in the medical field and they occasionally show up in our posts 🙂
