Meet Malibu Photographer: Franci Pearson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Franci Pearson.

Franci , please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Getting started in the mountains of Central Oregon at the ripe age of 14, I began to adventure through nature and my own personal potential in photography throughout my youth and development. Falling in love with every form of photography I explored, I couldn’t set my mind to one subject. Eventually making my way to Southern California I started picking up any freelance project I could get. Today I find home beachside in Malibu California, doing portrait photography and specializing in creative art and photojournalism. To me, this is my art and my art is my story. I enjoy all forms of it, and I believe in making my client’s visions come to life in photographs that will be cherished for a lifetime. I am extremely passionate about creative writing, which I display heavily in my many photography blogs through digital photography and lifestyle writing.

Has it been a smooth road?
To me it’s been nothing but laughter and joy every bit of the way, but in the times in my life where I have been hard pressed to put on a happy face, that is when I hold up my camera and some of my best most inspiring work is born. Nothing in life worth having comes easy, that is so cliche but it is also incredibly true to any form of work, I encourage you of this if you find true love within yourself with what you do, naturally the bumps and hurdles will actually be exciting! It can be discouraging at times when you feel like you are alone with your art, however, those moments will be met with many lessons to learn.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
I couldn’t be more proud of my career when I see models I photographed go on to be hugely successful starting with many of the photos I took for them. I am also incredibly proud of my work when I share images with my clients and see the deep emotion they feel for the memories I captured that will last their lifetime. Seeing my work displayed in my client’s lives is truly something to be proud of.

Every story has ups and downs. What were some of the downs others might not be aware of?
Photography has never been a struggle for me, I have always found it to be my safe zone, my go-to and my truest expression. It comes so naturally, that even when I wasn’t doing it for a living, I was still overjoyed with love for the art. What started as a hobby quickly became my reason to work.

What’s your outlook for the industry in our city?
Los Angeles is a fantastic place for artists, especially photographers. However, there is a huge competition here if you are just starting out. So long as you have a can-do attitude while truly investing yourself in your passions you’ll be able to face the competition head on and you will do well here. Don’t lose sight of the things that draw you to photography. I have found that if you are doing photography because you want to be like other photographers, the struggle will be intense here. But if you are in love with photography and making art, it will be the passion within you that leads to your potential. Always challenge yourself and strive for greatness.
