Meet Louis Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Louis Jones.

Louis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in Chicago, IL and grew up in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the entire city. I have a total of 10 biological siblings and I’m one of the youngest kids (youngest on my mom’s side with two younger sisters). I graduated at the top of my high school class, obtained my BA in Psychology/Education in three years, obtain two master degrees in psychology and applied behavioral analysis, and now I’ll be getting my Doctor of Psychology degree this year.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As early as eight years old, I identified as gay (even though these labels were pushed on me even before I knew what they were). After being discriminated against, bullied, abused, I pushed myself through life by holding my head up and focused on education.

What else should we know?
I’m also a filmmaker and I have a film production company. I’m also a Psychotherapist and Behavior Analyst. I used the stories of my clients, my peers, my ancestors, and even my own to display and unpack in front of the world. I merge my careers of being a therapist, a behavior analyst, and a filmmaker together to create visual art.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is subjective. I define success as never giving up. As long as a person continues to try and maneuver just a bit closer to their goals, they are already successful than before. Success is not measured by who crosses the finish line or completes a task; it is measured by each step you take in life.
