Meet Logan Patterson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Patterson.

Logan Patterson

Hi Logan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for dance began at an early age. My mom enrolled me in my first ballet class at the young age of three. I loved being in the studio and would cry on days that classes were not held. From knobby knees and baggy tights, I progressed and found my true love on stage. Recital week was nothing short of amazing! I was in awe of the “big” girls! Watching their talent and ability to share their story was inspiring.

As I became older and in enrolled in more classes, my love for the art continued to grow. My home studio, The Meredith Gravely School of Dance in Danville, Virginia, began a competition team when I was in the sixth grade. Once our team was selected and the competition season began, our eyes were opened to a whole new world of dance. It was there I became more determined than ever to pursue my love for dance into a career.

Our small-town team traveled to various cities attending conventions and competing. When I was in the eighth grade, we were in Washington, D.C., when it was suggested I try out for their performance company. That summer, my company instructor, my mom and I traveled to Los Angeles for their summer intensive. I was selected as a member of the Tremaine Performance Company that fall. I continued to be a member of TPC for four years, followed by a season of being a Pro Assistant. What an honor!

The summer before my senior year began, I traveled back to Los Angeles to attend the DanceMakers, Inc. summer intensive. I was selected as a member of The Collective Season IV. This was an amazing experience!

After graduation, I made the move. What a scary yet exciting time. My parents and I drove cross country, taking in all the sights along the way. I’m not sure who was more scared, them or me. But here I am, six years later, and loving it.

I am currently the wonderful Keri LaGrand’s assistant and an Administrative Assistant with Tremaine Dance. I also teach and choreograph at various studios locally and across the country.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth… not exactly the word I would use to describe living in LA! Struggles vary from balancing your bank account between buying groceries or dance classes to crying because the ceiling of your apartment keeps falling in. Let’s just say, my mom is a trouper for answering my phone calls at any hour on any day!

On a serious note, one of my biggest struggles was overcoming injuries throughout the years. My circle is small, but “my people” never gave up on me and they never let me give up on myself!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
While building a professional dance career is exciting, it also takes time. During the building years I have found myself working at “rent-paying jobs” to support myself. One of my favorite places my feet have landed is a North Hollywood rehearsal space known as theHUBnoho. This studio, my bosses (Tony, Matt, and Ivan) along with Director and friend, Patricia, have provided me with stability, personal growth, and connections. This job provided me with the opportunity to step into a management role and opened doors for me to develop new professional skills. I truly believe knowing I can successfully run a business has encouraged me look into different avenues connected to my dance career.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Progression over perfection. To be “perfect” is not an obtainable goal. But to “progress” a small amount each day is to work towards being a better version of yourself.

… and my parents. Goodness, I am so grateful for them!
