Meet Lauren Gabel of Out of Office Gal in Mid City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Gabel.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off working at an agency and then the company went under. I was asked to stay on for another six months to wrap up existing business….so I did, but I was able to start working remotely. While working, I started traveling at the same time – I had ALWAYS wanted to be a digital nomad as travel is my biggest passion. I started a travel blog and after the six months were up, I started my own little company and continued working with my biggest client. Everything worked out SO nicely and I’m happier than ever now.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I loved my team when I worked at the agency but I just always knew that I wanted to do my own thing. I wanted to work remotely and have more flexibility. I have always been a really hard worker, but I just need to do things my way. It took years to get to a place where I could actually go remote, but SO happy I was able to.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I have two businesses. My influencer & social media marketing business (day job), where my main client is a major beauty brand. And then I have my side hustle as well – a travel blog and travel Instagram – Out of Office Gal. I started it as a place to share my travels and encourage other women to embrace their wanderlust – even with a 9-5 job, no one to go with, and limited budget.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve managed to be fully remote and do all of this while frequently traveling the world (or at least before coronavirus hit). Last year I went to 18 countries. This year will be a bit different haha, but doing some domestic adventures and hoping to do some international travels closer to fall.

What were you like growing up?
I was super introverted and anxious as a kid….always off in my own head and imagination. I developed an interest and intrigue with travel early on. I was always begging my parents to take us places. We went to some cool places growing up, but it wasn’t until I graduated from college and started making my own money that I really started embracing this passion fully.
