Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Moore.
Krystal, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I actually got my start in fashion. I began working for a small retailer in Redlands, CA during my freshman year of college back in 2011. I stayed there all through college, working my way up until I was running pretty much all things web and marketing, from production and buying to social media, partnerships and PR.
After that, I moved to Orange County and joined PacSun in 2015. Even though it was a big brand, the marketing team was super lean (just two of us on social) so I wore a ton of hats and learned fast. A few years later, I got married and moved to New Jersey when my husband got a job out there. I kept freelancing for PacSun from the East Coast, traveling for events and even joining their first influencer trip to Tulum.
After a while, working from home in a new city got lonely, so I joined Bloomingdale’s on their social team in NYC. It was a great experience, but I quickly realized I missed the fast-paced, hands-on energy of smaller teams. So, during one of my lunch breaks, I hopped in a cab to Chelsea to interview for a startup called BABE Wine– founded by social media mogul Josh Ostrovsky (@thefatjewish). I ended up getting the job and helped manage their social media, partnerships, and events, working directly with the founders.
In 2020, BABE Wine was acquired by Anheuser-Busch, and I got to help with that transition by leading digital campaigns that amplified the brand’s voice. After a few years under the AB umbrella, my husband and I decided to move back to California to be closer to family.
Once back, I took a remote role as Social Media Director for a small CPG startup out of Miami. A month in, the VP of Marketing left, and I found myself running the entire department and managing a team of four. It was trial by fire, but I learned so much, from managing remote teams to driving national retail launches at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe. After a while, the travel demands became too much, so I moved on and joined ColourPop as an Omni-Channel Marketing Manager which was my first real step into beauty.
A few months in, the brand went through layoffs, and I was part of the most recent hires to be cut, which honestly turned out to be the best thing that could’ve happened. I’d already started freelancing on the side, and that was the push I needed to go all in.
Starting my own marketing business was both terrifying and exciting. I leaned on the connections I’d built over the years and landed my first clients pretty quickly.
What began as a one-woman operation quickly grew; within a year, I was busy enough to start bringing on freelancers to help manage the workload.
I landed on the name Social and Moore because it perfectly captures what the agency stands for. We’re social-driven at our core, but the “Moore” is both my name and a nod to everything we offer beyond social.
Now I get to partner with small brands that don’t have big in-house teams but need the help. Seeing where they started and how far they’ve come is exactly why I love what I do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If any business owner tells you it’s been a smooth road, they’re lying. I’ve definitely had my share of struggles along the way.
The first big one was managing my time, bandwidth, and boundaries. I left the 9–5 life because I didn’t want to be chained to a schedule, and somehow ended up working 24/7. As a business owner, you’re always “on.” I once took a weekly team call from the back of a cab in Mexico City because I didn’t want to disappoint a client.
Another challenge has been hiring the right people. No one is ever going to care about your business as much as you do, and you can’t expect them to. I also had to unlearn the “I’ll just do it myself” mindset and start trusting the team to take ownership and deliver.
And of course, there are the tough clients. For every great one, you’ll get a few that test you. The ones who hire you for your expertise but still think they can do it better. Or worse, the ones who disappear without paying, even with a contract in place. That’s how I learned to always take a deposit up front.
At the end of the day, everything is a lesson and that’s the wild, beautiful part of being a business owner. You’re constantly learning, adapting, and growing through it all.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Social and Moore Marketing ?
I run a boutique marketing agency that helps startups and local businesses take control of their marketing, without needing a massive budget or big team. Because let’s be real- you don’t need five different agencies to get results, just one that knows how to connect the dots. Our services include social media strategy and management, CRM and email marketing, influencer partnerships, paid media (Google + Meta), website management, and overall marketing strategy.
What sets my agency apart is how hands-on I am with every client. Even as we’ve grown, I stay deeply involved, overseeing deliverables, making sure every detail aligns with your brand, and keeping communication open every step of the way.
I’m a founder who’s genuinely passionate about helping small businesses grow, because small businesses are the heart of our communities. Seeing their success and being part of that journey is what makes this work so fulfilling for me.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people don’t know this, but I’ve wanted to be an entrepreneur pretty much my whole life. I’ve had tons of business ideas (and even tried a few), but deep down I always knew I’d end up building something of my own. My first “business” was in third grade- I made homemade cards with little poems inside. Looking back, the creative spark and entrepreneurial drive were already there. Also, my dad’s an entrepreneur, and watching how he worked hard and built real relationships stuck with me. I knew I wanted that same kind of future.
I’m naturally outgoing, which has definitely helped me in my career, especially when it comes to connecting with people. One of my favorite moments was at a brand event where I ended up meeting Snoop Dogg. I got the product into his hands for a quick photo, which somehow turned into an ongoing relationship with his team. We even sent him a branded fridge and kept it stocked every month.
I’ve always loved turning random moments into real opportunities, that’s truly where I thrive.
