Meet Kristen L of heelsandholster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen L.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts 21 years ago when I wrote a note in biology class “To the man in a white shirt.” Little did I know that 21 years later, we’d be married with two boys and he’d become a police officer in Los Angeles. We have overcome many common challenges in police marriages, such as police hate, injury on duty, trauma, solo parenting days, etc. I began sharing funny reels on Instagram @heelsandholster about police wife life and began coaching other police wives in 2021.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At first, I did @heelsandholster for fun. I invested in business coaching this past year to build out courses and coaching offerings to truly serve other police wives.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I support police wives to build work-life balance and overcome common challenges, such as resentment, loneliness, and solo parenting. I’ve sold over 1100 self published police family books on Amazon as well as offer courses and coaching. Prior to starting this business, I’ve had 18 years of social work experience with my Masters and PhD in Social Work. I am an Associate Professor at CSU Channel Islands in Health. It’s seemed so natural to shift my knowledge about supporting families to the uniqueness of police families. I have overcome resentment and loneliness married to a police officer who has worked night shift when we had babies myself. It gives me a unique empathy for other wives struggling. I can give them tools and knowledge to gain contentment in this life. I am most proud of empowering women who are often feeling disempowered and out of control in their lives. I’m proud of keeping families together by teaching skills to sustain a peaceful police marriage.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Boogie boarding at the beach.
