Meet Kiel Wuellner of West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiel Wuellner

Hi Kiel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Kiel (pronounced Keel), a design industry veteran having started working in the industry at the age of 15, and even since then I have worked in basically all areas of interiors. I started my career in home staging and real estate in Minnesota and after studying interior design went on to high-end residential design, commercial design, over 8 years in kitchen and bath, product design, and then shifting back to high-end residential design as Design Director of David Scott Interiors, in NYC, followed by President of Newel Antiques and Fine Art, after 10 years in NYC, I needed a fresh start during the pandemic and moved to Los Angeles on a whim to become the Senior Creative Director of Vesta Home, specializing in Luxury Home Staging and Instant Home, averaging between 45-60 homes a year, designing and installing homes with less than a week’s notice. Speed and attention to detail has always been my strong suit.  I am originally from Minnesota, a product of a decorator and artist, I reside in central Los Angeles, with a Brussels Griffon named Howard and a grey cat named Flora. In my downtime I enjoy a new DIY project on a weekly basis, gardening, exercising, and priding myself in never saying no to an opportunity.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been nothing close to a smooth road, I lost my mom at 19 and was then forced to grow up quicker than others, overcoming loss while finding myself was incredible challenging as I had come out as gay right before she passed. Losing my mom lit a fire and passion within me to push myself as hard as possible to succeed and live my life to the fullest since her life was cut so short. I moved to Chicago at age 22, NYC at 26, and then LA at 36 I have had to rebuild my networks and take on any and all opportunites that have come my way

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have worked in basically all areas of interiors since I was 15 years old. I started my career in home staging and real estate in Minnesota and after studying interior design and architecture went on to high-end residential design, commercial design, over 8 years in kitchen and bath, product design, and then shifting back to high-end residential design as Design Director of David Scott Interiors, in NYC, followed by President of Newel Antiques and Fine Art, after 10 years in NYC, I needed a fresh start during the pandemic and moved to Los Angeles on a whim to become the Senior Creative Director of Vesta Home, specializing in Luxury Home Staging and Instant Home, averaging between 45-60 homes a year, designing and installing homes with less than a week’s notice. Speed and attention to detail has always been my strong suit. I have been lucky enough to work with a large roster of public figures and a-list celebrities, and possibly every hedge fund manager under the sun.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I think going to any and all events in your industry are the best to find a mentor or gain support from industry leaders. I moved to New York at 26 without knowing a single person, and was able to build my career and presence within my industry by showing up and every event I could get an invitation to, joining as many industry organizations as possible.
