Meet Kevin Briggs of Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Briggs.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Kevin Briggs,

I began my career in hotels in 2000, shortly after moving to Los Angeles from New York. I quickly developed a passion for the hospitality business, recognizing it as the path I wanted to pursue for a successful career. I started my management journey in the West Hollywood and Beverly Hills market, where I gained valuable experience in Sales, Revenue Management, Operations and Assistant General Manager throughout three different boutique properties. After serving as the General Manager of The Grafton on Sunset and spending 19 years in that market, I transitioned to Glendale.

I was hired as the General Manager and to oversee the opening of The Glenmark, Glendale’s newest and only luxury boutique hotel. With the support of Azul Hospitality Group and our esteemed and much respected owner, Michael Majian, I have truly enjoyed my last six years at The Glenmark. I’ve also valued our involvement with the city of Glendale and the community, including my three years on the board of the Glendale Chamber, where I’ve enjoyed supporting existing and new businesses in the Jewel City.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The Glenmark’s opening experience. We initially launched in 2019, right amidst the COVID pandemic, which unfortunately led to the loss of most of our opening team and a delay in our official opening.

When we did open several weeks later, we operated at half capacity, and our restaurants were not yet permitted to open. During that time, many of our rooms were occupied by medical workers and Glendale locals seeking a much-needed “stay-cation.” Zoom meetings were at it’s highest as there was no business travel.

As the situation with COVID began to improve and restrictions eased, we were finally able to fully create and deliver the true Glenmark experience that we continue to offer today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I think people would say I am known for being an honest and fair leader. I’m most proud of the team I have built and continue to build. To be able to share with them my own success and failures throughout my journey helps shape them quicker as they share there journey as well. You have to trust your team, learn from each other and feel comfortable to delegate or you will fail trying to do everything by yourself.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me are relationships. I believe that relationships are paramount in any professional setting. Cultivating trust and loyalty, whether within your team or with clients, is essential for success.

When you foster an environment where colleagues feel like family, it naturally leads to consistency and continuity. This is true regardless of the industry; strong relationships contribute to a happy team and a more fulfilling work experience.
