Meet Kerri Affronti of Movement Center in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kerri Affronti.

Kerri, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I went to college for Health and Wellness with a focus on Biology. At the same time I attended college, I got my Massage Therapy License in New York. When I graduated, I wanted to open a holistic spa that catered to women’s health. It was an amazing experience and we had a beautiful clinic for 4 years in NY. But as a massage therapist, I realized that the health benefits of massage, relaxation, stress relief, and pain relief were not long lasting. In fact, at best the results lasted 2-3 days max. I began my quest looking for a way to affect permanent change in a person’s well-being. This led me to study the Gyrotonic Expansion System and Pilates. My own health crisis (diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, an autoimmune disease) taught me about the importance of movement education and how that directly affects our quality of life.

During times of intense stress, the Ulcerative Colitis would cause terrible pain and at times, the symptoms put me in the hospital. It was during those times of battling this disease that my research and investigation into optimum health and well-being created the most improved plan for health. Eventually, I found a clinic that performed what is called FMT’s (Fecal Microbiota Transplants) in London, UK and I raised the money to travel to Europe for these procedures. Ultimately these life-changing procedures produced a state of wellness and reliability on my gut health that I had never had before. This experience also informed me of the missing pieces in healthcare and caused me to look at a model that could provide access and support throughout the process of getting well, rather than a touch and go system in medicine as it currently stands.

From all of this, I created my company, B3 and after writing a business plan, and began working on the processes. I have pitched it to several VC’s in Silicon Valley and have had traction so far. Right now, I am currently a part of a Movement Center in Los Angeles that is the leading Gyrotonic educational facility in Santa Monica, and we are breaking ground with our client’s health plans. I have never been a part of such a high-level collective of brilliant women who are authentically dedicated to their clients’ wellness.

It is from the success of this model that we can expand into incorporating Western Medicine into our Holistic approach and create a workable resource for auto-immune, digestive, and joint disorders on the West Side of LA.
