“Film is my commitment to creating work that matters in our world; I wanted to film a documentary on global sex trafficking because it is a fast-growing and horrific industry that tragically affects every child and woman worldwide. We can either do something or nothing. I simply chose to do something with the resources and creative talent I possess and have access to as a professor in film. As a filmmaker, my intention was to tell the story. It was not possible to tell the story of human trafficking unless I visited the countries and met the victims trapped in the sex trade face-to-face, but the true heroes are the nonprofit organizations that rescue, restore, and reintegrate these innocent women and children. Creating awareness is not enough, but rather a call to action is ALL of our responsibility. It will not only take an army of heroes but also a village of ordinary people like you and me.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I filmed in 9 countries from 2016 to 2018 from Asia to Africa and right here in our own backyard in the USA. The documentary short 26 Seconds on Sex Tourism in Thailand and Cambodia was released in 2019. Then the pandemic stopped the entire world. During that time, I built a YouTube channel for the 26 Seconds documentary project of videos of the US content to Create Awareness and Call to Action. The 26 Seconds documentary short won over 20 awards, and most of the film festivals were online instead of in-person. After the pandemic ended, I began editing the feature documentary 26 Seconds-ISIS Sex Slaves and recently received distribution with Epoch TV, with worldwide distribution which will be officially released on November 24th, 2023. This may seem like a smooth road to success but of course, it is always challenging to raise funding for production and post-production.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I worked as an Actress for over 30 years in television, theater, and film. Then, I began directing theater and became a professor at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University. In 2016, I began directing and producing the 26 Seconds documentary project on global sex trafficking.

The 26 Seconds documentary is driven by my passion in giving a voice to victimized children and women worldwide. I also wanted to highlight the nonprofit organizations that have actively stepped forward to do something about exposing and eradicating sex trafficking around the world.

In addition, I am passionate about passing my craft onto future generations of students as a professor at Dodge College of Film & Media Arts at Chapman University. I have also taught at the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television and at the Orange County School of the Arts.

As an actor, I am most proud of being a lifetime member of the Actors Studio, as a Director and Actor. I am most proud of the 26 Seconds documentary project that I have directed, produced and edited.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see the entertainment industry not only moving to online distribution only, but also moving towards AI. This is very concerning for actors and writers.
