Meet Katleho Mallela

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katleho Mallela.

Katleho, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Mamothepana Katleho Anthea Mallela I was born March 4th, 1995 in Kempton Park South Africa, Katleho is my name of preference. my journey began when I played Mary in the birth of Christ at the age of seven and I have been pursuing my dream to become an actress. I have been training as an actress from the age of 12, in between this journey, I was fall in love with modeling, which then becomes apart of my dreams. I attended the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy when I completed high school I moved to Cape Town, South Africa to complete my Bachelor’s degree in Live Performance at AFDA The South African School of Motion Picture and Live Performance. Which I completed in 2016. oddly enough along this path during my undergrad years, I produced a short film, which we entered into the Cannes but was not seleccted and produced a music video for a friend of mine. I moved to Los Angeles to get further training at the New York Film Academy, I completed my Associates Degree in Acting For Film.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to get here has been challenging, I have always dreamed of coming to Hollywood but I could not afford it, I entered a competition that allowed me the chance to move here by winning a provisional scholarship, the challenging aspect of my scholarship was the fact that it was a provisional scholarship. Fortunately, with my parents support, I was able to come to Los Angeles. The journey with many obstacles stills continues.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actress, model, director and producer now, through my life I have produced a short film, music video, directed play, performed in multiple productions i.e (Cinderella in the Phantom played The stepmother, Last Chance High played Mrs. Tadpole, Biography played Annette, Tooth and Nail played Thandi.) and with television experience (The prestige The host & Commercial: PA HIV/Aids,Love Life).

I am a female advocate, I am currently working in a documentary that supports female equality and talks about what it’s like to be a woman in your world. The documentary is called Starwalkers. Starwalkers is about women stepping up with a rallying call to raise the voice and visibility of marginalized women through the ancient and transformative power of pilgrimage.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Obtaining my Two Degrees and the Play that I am currently working on.
