Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Watford.
Hi Katie, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve loved the entertainment business as long as I can remember and moved myself to Los Angeles one month after graduating from high school at 18 years old. For the next 10 years, I worked in almost every area that Hollywood had to offer from the music industry, tv/film, production, post-production, etc., as I was trying to figure out what I really wanted to do as a career. Fate stepped in somewhere around the time I was 23 or 24 and had a friend who was a stylist and asked me to assist her on-set for a couple commercials she was booked for. During those 2 jobs, I had this strange feeling that this was what I was meant to do in life but wasn’t in a place personally where I was really ready for a career. Fast forward to 2012, I stumbled across this website that was offering a 2-day workshop to teach their students about becoming a fashion stylist and signed up. After that, I started building up my clientele with Hollywood executives.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many bumps in the road throughout my career as I feel like I’ve had several “mini-careers” as being a fashion stylist from a personal stylist to a celebrity stylist; all of those chapters brought their own challenges. Now that I’ve transition to a Style Coach, my first hurtle was outlining my methodology. Now I’m in the phase of dialing in my messaging. A brands messaging is EVERYTHING. This is what allows any business to scale to the next level by really honing on the messaging that attracts their ideal client so that the message hooks them from an onlooker lead to a raving fan.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating a Client Magnetic Wardrobe for female entrepreneurs with my innovative styling solution, The Edge Factor. This high-touch style transformation program is 3 to 6 months, and clients work 1:1 with me directly. My method is not about trends or what’s in or out of style; instead, I operate from a holistic level to target my client’s key personality traits to create them a Client Magnetic Wardrobe. We start by ‘cracking the code’ on how to develop each client authentic style through my Style Identity Method. Then we bring it to life with expert shopping + best-dressed styling. All of the this is handled remotely. The Edge Factor sets up each client with the correct styling tools + systems they need to eliminate the anxiety + confusion when getting dressed each day.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
As a Style Coach, my job is to provide a style transformation that creates life-changing results within a woman closet and her confidence. This requires me to really listen. Making someone feel heard is huge in general, but especially needed when it comes down to developing a woman magnetic wardrobe. Also, being relatable. So many women are still very lost on where to begin to making them feel comfortable is very important in my success formula. Next is honesty. The end goal is to make them look + feel the best they ever had in their life, and that requires me being honest + direct on what is/isn’t working. And lastly is keeping things fun!
