Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?

atharine Story is a California-born designer whose label embodies sustainable luxury through bold, hand-dyed textiles, flowing silhouettes, and couture-level craftsmanship. Her collections merge consciously sourced vintage fabrics with custom-designed textiles, hand-beading, and artisanal techniques that revive heritage crafts for the modern world. From boutiques in Laguna Beach and Miami to international runways, her work has captivated celebrities and global clients alike, offering one-of-a-kind creations that celebrate femininity, confidence, and timeless beauty.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
nothing worth having is achieved easily ! challenging – thrilling and stilln the game afte 30 years-boutique owner – 3 day notices to pay or to quit ! production issues! staff challenges – the only thing that holds it together for me is my creativity ! the magic glue that keeps me growing and going despite setbacks !!!!!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
i am an original OG of sustainable fashion, self taught – it didnt have a name when i started but i have always worked with vintage textiles and reworked garment – fast forward to doing installations for art basel and recently being certified by the World Sustainable organization in Milan, showing at Milan Fashion Week.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in between Laguna Beach (with Mom) and Laurel Canyon (with Dad) in the 60’s & 70’s – Laguna beach girl – vintage culture and surfers. LA was Fred Segals – wandering over to the Mammas abd Pappas our niegbors in the Canyon – along with Carole King and others, it was “Hair” and the song from the famous stage play , “peace love freedom happiness” singing with my brothers down the canyon from the sunroof in my Dads VW bus
