Meet Katerina Hung

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katerina Hung.

Katerina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Picture this: a 5-year-old me with tiny fingers struggling to find the right notes on the piano. It wasn’t easy, but I persisted, and soon enough, I found myself falling in love with the world of the arts.

I went on to pursue a fine arts education, experimenting with various mediums and discovering the thrill of creating something truly unique. But it wasn’t until I found myself on stage, bringing characters to life and captivating audiences, that I truly found my passion.

However, my journey didn’t end there. I soon discovered a new medium for storytelling and self-expression: photography. And from the moment I picked up a camera, I knew that this was what I was meant to do.

Through my lens, I strive to capture images that are not only beautiful but also meaningful and thought-provoking. I believe that every subject has a story to tell, and it’s my job to help bring that story to life.

My approach to photography is all about the details. From the perfect lighting to the right angle, every element of the shot matters. And through my work, I’m constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, experimenting with new techniques and approaches to create truly one-of-a-kind images.

But what I love most about my job is the chance to connect with people and tell their stories. It’s an honor to be trusted with someone’s memories and to have the opportunity to bring those memories to life through my art.

In the end, I’m grateful for the chance to use my creativity to inspire others to find their own unique voice. Whether it’s through music, acting, or photography, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of creating something truly special.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing up in Taiwan, I fell in love with the world of photography. Capturing moments and emotions through images became my passion and my escape. When I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dreams as a photographer, however, I quickly realized that it wasn’t going to be easy.

As a newcomer in a competitive and established field, I faced language barriers, an introverted personality, and difficulties networking with other photographers. I struggled to make a name for myself while others seemed to have it all figured out.

But I refused to give up. I surrounded myself with good people who believed in me and my talent, and I made it my mission to constantly challenge myself and improve in my craft. I studied everything I could about composition, lighting, and storytelling through images and poured everything I had into creating images that truly captured the essence of my subjects.

Slowly but surely, my hard work and dedication began to pay off. My images began to gain recognition and my client base began to grow. With each new project, I grew more confident in my abilities and my vision.

While I have yet to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming a director, I remain focused on my passion for photography. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it has been a rewarding one. And I know that with continued hard work and dedication, I will overcome any obstacles that come my way and achieve even greater success as a photographer.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a photographer, what sets me apart from others is my ability to capture the essence of my subjects, revealing their personalities and unique qualities. It’s a skill that has been honed over years of practice and dedication to my craft.

What I’m most proud of, however, is the opportunity to meet and work with some of the most interesting and exciting people in the world. From celebrities to everyday people, each subject brings something new and inspiring to the table, challenging me to push myself further and explore new creative avenues.

It’s this passion for capturing the beauty and complexity of the human experience that drives me forward as a photographer. Whether I’m shooting in a studio or out in the world, my goal is always the same: to create images that move and inspire, that tell a story and connect with my audience on a deep and emotional level.

And as I continue on my journey, meeting new people and refining my craft, I am constantly reminded of the power and beauty of photography and the incredible privilege it is to be able to create art that touches people’s lives in such profound ways.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
There’s something about Los Angeles that just hits home. Maybe it’s the sunshine, the palm trees swaying in the breeze, or the endless array of delicious food from every corner of the world. Or maybe it’s the fact that every day, I get to meet some of the most unique and interesting individuals that you’ll find anywhere in the world.

From actors and musicians to writers and entrepreneurs, Los Angeles is a magnet for creative and driven people from all walks of life. And as a photographer, that means that every day is an adventure as I discover new stories and perspectives that I might never have encountered otherwise.

Of course, it’s not all sunshine and roses – there’s also the infamous LA traffic to contend with. I mean, let’s be real; it’s like a never-ending game of bumper cars out there. But somehow, even that becomes part of the charm as you learn to navigate the maze of freeways and side streets like a pro.

And at the end of the day, as the sun sets over the city and the stars come out to play, there’s no place I’d rather be than right here in Los Angeles. It’s a city that’s full of surprises and contradictions, where diversity and culture collide in a beautiful, chaotic dance. And I feel incredibly lucky to call it my home, even with all the crazy traffic!
