Meet Kat & Amanda of The Cozy Cookie Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat & Amanda.

Hi Kat & Amanda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Kat: The story of The Cozy Cookie Company began with a chance meeting through a local mom’s Facebook group. Amanda and I bonded quickly over playdates with our kids and eventually decided to grab breakfast together without the little ones.

Amanda: I knew Kat was into baking cookies just like me. So, over pancakes, I shared my dream of starting a cookie company, but that I wouldn’t know how to do any of the fiance/numbers part of it. She told me that she had a background in business/finance so she could handle that part.

Kat: My dad had a family business, which he owned with two of his brothers so growing up I got to see first hand how to run a business. That, coupled with my degree in accounting and my work in finance gave me confidence we could build this company successfully. I knew Amanda was a trained pastry chef and could lead the test bakes and presentation of our products so it felt like a perfect fit.

Amanda: Kat’s birthday was coming up and she had a big party planned, so we decided to get together the night before the party and bake cookies together. We landed on the name, The Cozy Cookie Company, and put out a few different flavors of cookies for people to try at the party.

Kat: Baking together was so much fun and we got great feedback on our cookies from everyone at the party, so we decided to go for it!

Amanda: Over the next couple weeks, we researched everything we would need to start a home bakery. Then we got together for coffee, and made it official by forming our LLC.

Kat: As we waited for our licenses and permits to be approved, we started test baking and perfecting our recipes.

Amanda: Our husbands joke that they’re going to need to buy bigger clothes since we’re always asking them to taste our cookies, but they love being our testers!

Kat: We’ve built our business through social media, word of mouth, and community involvement. Joining local chambers of commerce has helped us get our name out there, and we’ve been fortunate enough to participate in various pop-ups around town.

Amanda: Today, we are proud to say we have built a loyal customer base. It’s been an incredible journey, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to share our passion for baking with our community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth doing is ever easy, and starting a cookie business has been no exception. However, one thing that’s been a blessing is our partnership – we’ve been fortunate to have a smooth working relationship. We genuinely enjoy baking together, and it’s a highlight of our week every week.

That being said, perfecting our recipes has been a challenge. We’ve had our fair share of failed test bakes, but we’ve learned from each one and used those lessons to refine our recipes. It’s satisfying to see our hard work pay off when we finally land on a flavor we love. We enjoy experimenting with new flavors and finding unique combinations that our customers will enjoy.

As moms of young children, Amanda has a 19-month-old, and Kat has a 2 1/2-year-old and an 18-month-old, navigating our schedules has been a juggling act. We’ve had to get creative to balance family time with business demands. Late nights and early mornings have become the norm, but it’s worth it to see our dream take shape. Through it all, we’ve learned to prioritize, communicate effectively, and support each other through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and parenthood.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Kat: Food is such a big part of Mexican culture – it’s one of the ways we show love. One of my favorite childhood memories is spending time in the kitchen with my mom. I would sit on the island table, surrounded by the sights and smells of cooking, and help prep meals by chopping and mixing ingredients. It was such a special bonding time for us, and I loved watching her transform simple ingredients into delicious meals. Being in the kitchen felt like a magical place, full of possibilities and creativity. Those early experiences sparked a passion in me that has only grown stronger over time. About 8 years ago, I started experimenting more with baking and cooking, and that’s when my confidence in the kitchen really took off. I started trying new recipes and techniques, and it’s been a joy to see my skills evolve. Those childhood memories of cooking with my mom have stayed with me and continue to inspire me today.

Amanda: One of my favorite childhood memories is sitting on the couch with my dad, watching the Food Network together. We would get lost in the cooking shows, sharing laughs and ideas about what we could try making in the kitchen. Those moments were filled with warmth and creativity, and they sparked my love for cooking that I still cherish today. That time spent with my dad not only brought us closer, but it also sparked my dream of becoming a pastry chef.
I knew I wanted to create beautiful and tasty treats just like the chefs on the show.
Watching them made me realize that baking is not just about food, it’s about sharing joy with others.
