Meet Julia Mayorova

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Mayorova.

Julia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It’s been a long journey – I started doing photography when I was 17, which is ten years ago. I was getting my degree in Journalism back in Moscow, and photography was my hobby, so I decided to get a photographer job, so I could pay my bills. First it was tough – I was taking pictures at the parties, events – everywhere where I was invited. The good thing about starting earlier is the fact that you grow earlier as well. So by the age of 21, I was already contributing to huge magazines both in Russia and internationally – my photos from parties were published in The Interview, Vogue, Tatler and other media outlets. And there was a moment that I decided to move on and try to make it in America.

Now it’s been a couple of years since I’ve been living and working in the US, and I’m so grateful for all the opportunities in life that brought me to the point where I am today. Now I’m shooting portraits, editorials, commercials for huge brands such as OMEGA, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Lancome, Bentley, Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Puma, JLo, Garage and many others. And the coolest part is that I have a chance to work with the most talented people in the industry – during the last couple of years I had shoots with Jeniffer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford, Karlie Kloss, Shia LaBeouf, Alicia Vikander, Alessandra Ambrosio, and many others. Also, I’m doing dozens of artworks, performances, collaborations with other artists that I’m proud of.

This year I even had a project in NASA, where I snapped George Clooney and Thomas P. Stafford. If someone told me that ten years ago, I wouldn’t even believe.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there’ve been hard times but mostly it was fun. But I believe that it always depends on your personal attitude to difficulties you are facing. To me, this road is fascinating, and if there are struggles along the way – they somehow bring out your creativity to work it all out.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As a photographer, I’m really happy that all my experience in both report, portrait and commercial photography brought me where I am. I always deliver the best result I can, I’m reliable, and at the same time I’m young and fresh minded – that could be why such huge and respectful brand can trust me when it comes to content creation. Also, I hope that I found my personal style and my way of understanding colors and forms.

Also, for a 27 years old photographer I have quite a huge list of celebrities – including huge stars like J Lo and Nicole Kidman, that I’ve worked with all over the world – Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Orlando, Moscow, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Milan, Zurich, Corsica, Shanghai, Bangkok – and the list can go on. The biggest break was probably the shoot in NASA this year – I was taking portraits of astronauts who worked on Apollo missions, and of OMEGA ambassadors – for instance, George Clooney.

I’m so excited about what already happened, and even more exciting to see what awaits me in the future.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When I was eight, my younger brother and I were sent to a summer camp. For some reason, I hated it from the very first day, and I was crying literally everyday, they even called me ‘the crying girl’. Somehow my parents found it out, and in a week they drew somewhat around 1000 miles to that camp, rented a room close by, and took us out from the camp for four days – and these days were one of the best in my life. We were sightseeing (even though there was literally nothing to see in that middle of nowhere), having picnics, swimming in lakes and doing all fun stuff that a little crying girl could dream about.
