Meet Josue Martinez of Austin, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Josue Martinez.

Hi Josue, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.

Resilience, Passion, & Purpose are three words that perfectly describe J.E.M.

My name is Josue Emmanuel Martinez, but most people know me as JEM. I’m 31 years old, born and raised in Laredo, Texas. After high school, I moved to Dallas to study medicine, but deep down, I was also chasing a creative dream. I’ve always been drawn to modeling, acting, and artistic self-expression.

Coming from a large immigrant family, I’ve carried a deep motivation to make my parents proud. At the age of 21, I took a leap of faith and moved to San Diego, California, determined to pursue modeling full-time. I was passionate about fitness, art, and expressing myself through creativity and movement, but life took an unexpected turn when my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. I put my dreams on hold to care for her, which became the hardest chapter of my life. I battled depression, anxiety, and self-doubt, and at one point, I lost my sense of direction.

Through faith, family, and time, I learned to heal. Today, I’m stronger, more focused, and ready to step back into the modeling world — not just to chase a dream, but to honor the journey that shaped me into who I am.

You can find my work and personal journey on Instagram and TikTok @JosueEmmanueel, where I share my fitness progress, creative projects, and moments of inspiration.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been a smooth road?

It definitely hasn’t been smooth. My path has been full of challenges, but every obstacle has helped me grow.

During high school, I struggled with severe acne, which left both physical and emotional scars. It affected my confidence and made me the target of bullying — something that can really impact your self-esteem at a young age. Later, when I started modeling, I faced another challenge: my height. At 5’5”, I didn’t fit the “ideal” industry standard, and I often heard “no” before I even had the chance to show what I could do.

Still, I never let those things stop me. I’ve learned that modeling isn’t just about height or looks — it’s about presence, confidence, and authenticity. I focus on what I bring to the table: my story, my energy, and my passion.

My time in San Diego was one of the toughest yet most defining periods of my life. I was working full-time, studying part-time, and trying to build my portfolio with no outside help. There were moments I almost lost everything, even came close to being homeless. But my faith, resilience, and family values gave me the strength to keep pushing forward.

All those experiences shaped me into the person I am today. Someone who refuses to give up no matter how hard life gets.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Outside of modeling, I work in healthcare management, where I’ve learned the importance of discipline, compassion, and balance. I’m proud of being able to juggle work, school, and family responsibilities — especially taking on the role of power of attorney for my parents at a young age.

What sets me apart is my blend of strength and sensitivity. My journey has taught me to lead with empathy, stay grounded, and turn adversity into fuel. Modeling, for me, isn’t just about aesthetics. It is about telling a story through every image. I bring emotion, purpose, and authenticity to everything I do.

Even though my mom didn’t live to see my accomplishments, I know she’s watching with pride. Earning my bachelor’s degree during such a difficult time in my life was proof that perseverance and faith can carry you through anything.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5–10 years?

In the next 5–10 years, I see myself working with brands that inspire authenticity, diversity, and creative expression. I want to collaborate with companies that embrace individuality and celebrate real stories.

My goal is to continue growing as both a model and an advocate for positivity and resilience. Life isn’t always easy, but I’ve learned that even after the storm, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Through my work and platform, I want to remind others that no dream is too big and no struggle is too small to overcome. If you lead with heart, faith, and consistency, you can turn any setback into your greatest comeback.
