Meet Jose Corella

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Corella.

Jose, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I actually started off in this industry as a fashion/beauty photographer. I quickly found a love for makeup by watching the artists that I worked with on shoots. I always found it so fascinating to see the transformation from beginning to end. So, when I moved to LA from Arizona, I decided to take a risk and pursue makeup as a full-time career. Through practice and social media, I quickly emerged in the beauty world.

Fast forward six years, I have established a name for myself and a makeup style/look that is identifiable as mine.

I believe I got here today by challenging myself to not follow what others in the industry are doing.

A major key that has helped me and something I always teach to emerging artists is to be very selective on how you market yourself and your work. DON’T just post-work because you need something to post or show. Only post what best shows your skills and the work you’re the proudest and excited to put out.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road as an artist is always up-and-down. I think the biggest challenge as an artist is staying inspired and keeping true to your aesthetic.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
So, in my career, I specialize in celebrity and beauty work.
I’m known for my techniques for fresh makeup, editorial looks and red carpet glam.
I am just so proud to always be evolving I don’t limit myself to one style. I like to challenge myself in every type of makeup.

One of the things that sets me apart is the consistency in work. I always try to give my all to every look that I’m creating.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would absolutely recommend Los Angeles. I feel like Los Angeles is one of the best places to be a makeup artist because there is so much work and there’s room for everyone in this industry.
