Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Rax.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jordyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started in the entertainment industry about three years ago. It was something I’d always been curious about but had never thought it was possible. I’d wanted to be involved in it from a young age but my family was less than thrilled about it, not exactly discouraging but not encouraging. So I put that ‘dream’ on the shelf so to speak. And then one morning I woke up and literally decided- ‘this is what I’m gonna do’. I didn’t know how I was going to, I didn’t really have any connections or leads. I was starting at ground level in an area that is mostly rural. All I knew is that I had this intense drive to just go for it to see where it went. I figured if I was going to do this, I and be respected and taken seriously I needed to show up as the best version of myself possible. On the day of deciding this, I had come across celebrity trainer Don Saladino’s Instagram page and his programs. I had struggled with self-image prior to Don’s programs but they helped to transform my entire life.
Throughout my entire journey, he has been nothing short of kind, encouraging, and professional. About six months into the programs, the results were definitely showing and that’s when everything started to fall into place. I was beginning to book gigs consistently and receive offers from potential agents. It wasn’t long after that I hopped a last-minute flight to LA and met up with a producer that I’m fortunate enough to call a friend. The dynamic in what I wanted definitely shifted after this trip and people were asking me why I wasn’t acting. I didn’t have a good answer and decided to start pursuing that. Within two months, I was being cast as extras in short films before I got my first lead role last summer.
All in all, I couldn’t be where I am today without the persistence and discipline I’ve adopted but most of all the connections I’ve made along the way. The people who have stepped in and offered encouraging words and advice or who believed in me enough to get me in rooms with people who could help my growth- I owe so much of my continued success to these people. Because of these people, I hope one day I can help and inspire others who are looking to do what I have but don’t have the resources- especially girls and women who thought it might not be possible for them as well.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s definitely been a rollercoaster. In the beginning, it was tough. Everyone who I admire who has ever ‘made it’ has always said not to take ‘no’ personally. And they’re absolutely right. There were a lot of long days at first where I felt like I was trying to scale this huge mountain and I had no idea what to do or where to go or who to talk to. There were a lot of mental battles that went on- self-image was a big one. I struggled with whether I was good enough or looked the part. It was intimidating in the beginning for sure. But I’m not easily discouraged which I guess can be a good thing, in this case it was. I’d gone through a really trying time in my personal life around the same time this was all beginning to take off as well and I remember thinking- ‘This isn’t where it stops. I’m not going back. Ever.’ I was in a place where I felt I had nothing to lose, so I kept showing up. It hasn’t always been easy but it’s definitely been worth it.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a model and actress. Most of my modeling has been in the fitness realm because I enjoy the aesthetic of it but of course always looking to expand. My acting career thus far has been short drama/dramedy films, that being said I have recently had some feature film projects come my way so we will see what comes of them!
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come and yet to go. I feel like too many times we can get caught up on what’s to come and not enough on honoring the journey to where we are today.
My perseverance, discipline, and adaptability I think are what sets me apart from others. I didn’t have much support getting into the business in the beginning, it was all on me. There’s a lot of days it would have been easier to throw in the towel but I had a goal. Above all that, I want to hopefully inspire other girls and women that it’s possible!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
This is where it gets so crazy! I feel like now at this point, I have so many people to thank and give credit to. Of course, I have to thank Don Saladino – his kindness and encouragement when he’s as busy as he is has really made all the difference. My body and my outlook on health, in general, has totally shifted for the better because of his programs and advice. I’d like to thank Erman Baradi for being a great friend and a source to all things business-related, especially in LA. Tone Jacobs has been one of the best mentors, friends, supporters I could have asked for in and out of the business, he’s been incredibly kind and generous with his time and perspectives when he didn’t have to be. My two closest friends, who I will leave nameless (you know who you are)- they have been rocks through some of the roughest days and been my cheerleaders on my best.
