Meet Jon Rise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Rise.

Hi Jon, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m just a kid from Broward County, Florida who’s having the time of his life. I was born in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Florida when I was 11, but I knew I would be a rapper since I was five years old. I heard Slow Jamz by Kanye West and Lose Yourself by Eminem on a small radio that my older brother kept in his room, I instantly knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I knew I would be a recording artist. My first professional opportunity in the music business was as a stagehand, setting up shows for artists like Jay Z, Beyonce and Lady Gaga to name a few. I went on to executive produce and star in a documentary called The Pursuit of Greatness with my good friend Asri Bendacha (Director of “Follow Me” on Netflix). The documentary follows me as I create my EP while balancing life in Los Angles and family. Throughout the film, we have celebrity guests give their professional advice to young musicians in various interviews we conducted. The Pursuit of Greatness won “Best Documentary” in the Hip Hop Film Festival (2020). It is set to release in winter 2021 on The Source Streaming Network. Currently, I am working on my debut album, set to release early 2022. I truly believe my music and films will be a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who listen and watch.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think that depends on your perspective. Has there been challenges? Yes! But everything always works out eventually. I am a huge believer in visualization and God. Through every stage of my career, I have had a very clear view of what my ultimate goals are. I can close my eyes at any moment and, through my imagination, go to a future that feels much more enjoyable than whatever is causing resistance. That always seems to make my anxiety subside and get me back to feeling on point. Also, I’ve seen a lot of artists go through things I can never imagine going through, with bad contracts and people around them who didn’t have their best interest. I’ve been blessed with a great team and amazing people around me! Everything I truly want always seems to happen for me when I speak on it and work towards it long enough. Some things take longer than others but it always works! I’m not sure if “smooth” is the word I’d use but it’s definitely been an exciting road.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I pride myself on my lyricism and my storytelling abilities. I feel like the art of storytelling hasn’t been displayed on a high level in recent years. I think most artists are really good at making great melodies and vibes but I really haven’t heard any lyrics that excite me besides my own lately. On the contrary, I think a lot of conscious/lyrical artists sometimes forget to use the art of melody and vibes, which can lead to very boring music. What really sets me apart from other rappers is my unique ability to write songs with substance while also giving the listener good vibes that are melodically pleasing to the ear. Jon Rise is known for having “Bars” hahaha. I encourage you all to go listen for yourselves.
