Meet Joelle Everett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joelle Everett.

Hi Joelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In the spring of 2017 when I was a freshman in college, I started an Instagram page to showcase the outfits I would wear to class each day. I would take a quick selfie in my tiny dorm room mirror and post it on my page. I didn’t think too hard into it. It was sort of like an archive for me. Over time I started getting more engagement and realized that I really enjoyed showcasing my style and giving people advice on what to wear. In the summer of 2018, I had a job as a stylist at a small boutique that completely changed how I thought about fashion. I had so much fun exploring and playing with clothes and helping my clients piece together looks for special events. I wanted to keep that creative outlook going so when the summer ended, I went full force with my fits page devoting time to styling outfits and creating content that would help people find their own unique style. Now my page is growing and I’m sharing all different kinds of content like photos, videos, Instagram reels, and even TikToks now! I’ve had the pleasure of being featured on a few blogs and even a local magazine back home. Now that I’m in New York, my creative inspiration is out of this world and I’m excited to explore and work on bigger projects in the near future.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely have had some hiccups through the years where I lack motivation, I’m not consistent, or imposter syndrome creeps up. I have had periods of time when I get really in my head about whether or not my looks are good or whether or not people will like them and I have to ground myself. I have to remind myself I started this page for me. I started this page to help people. So as long as I like what I’m wearing, it doesn’t matter, and I know at least one person out there will be inspired. It’s hard starting any sort of online platform because you don’t get the instant gratification that big name influencers receive, but you have to remember that everyone starts somewhere and consistency is key.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I originally decided to label myself as a fashion enthusiast and style architect because I didn’t feel like I had the right to call myself a stylist yet, but truthfully, I am a stylist. I style myself every day and have helped curate looks for so many people. Now, I continue to call myself a fashion enthusiast and style architect because I feel like it doesn’t box me in as much as the term stylist. Clothes are my first love, but I am inspired by so much! My page highlights all kinds of fashion from streetwear to preppy chic. I also love showcasing makeup looks, interior design, and more. I am most proud of and focused on fashion looks, but at my core, I love showcasing ideas, visions, and feelings that can manifest in many different ways. Additionally, what sets me apart from others is my desire to help people. I know how great I feel when I look good and I want to provide other people the tools to do that.

Any big plans?
I am really excited to push content more consistently and continue to inspire the masses whether that be clothes, makeup, decor, or more. Additionally, I’m excited to start styling other people besides myself for photoshoots and dabbling in creative direction. I love piecing together outfits but I want to try bringing entire visions to life. I recently joined a start-up fashion publication in New York called Bright Eyed Collective as a stylist so I’m extremely happy to be a part of such a talented and creative group of people and I look forward to our first issue and all other upcoming projects.
