Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Komara.
Hi Joe, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Indiana and went to college for Entertainment Business and Psychology at Indiana University. New York City was next up on the journey in order to fulfill my musical theatre dreams of performing on Broadway. Once I checked that box, it was L.A. for the Hollywood of it all. I was in L.A. full-time for 9 years – when the pandemic hit I had also hit – a wall. I was done with LA and NYC for a bit and needed a break from acting and performing when I discovered my desire to give back and be of service in helping people create positive changes in their lives. So I became a certified and accredited Positive Psychology-Based Health and Well Being Coach, where I have been virtually coaching people full-time ( in addition to acting part-time) from my home in Atlanta, GA. It is – afterall – the Hollywood of the South, they say. I am truly fulfilled in the life I have managed to create by showing up for others in their quest to better their lives through positive change. To date, I have done over 2500 Coaching sessions since making the shift during COVID.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A smooth road – that’s a lovely thought. ;). I have endured much change and uncertainty. Lots of the personal challenges of being an actor and living alone in L.A. got to me at some points. A toxic relationship took me from L.A. to NYC back to working on a cruise ship in the Caribbean and Alaska, back to L.A. all within a year. I had to shed a lot along the way moving back and forth across the country from coast to coast and everywhere in between. Embracing change as possibility and opportunity became a necessity. This helped fortify and strengthen the abilities I have to now show up for people fully in service.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Komara Coaching?

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
RISK! Absolutely! Risk taking is essential to growth. All it really (has to) means is to get out of one’s comfort zone. I call it “Messy action”. If risks are attached to perfectionist outcomes or expectations then it makes it feel too big or too important and adds (potentially) unnecessary obstacles to achieving goals and finding fulfillment. Of course, we’re not speaking of unwarranted or unhealthy or unsafe risks. I’m speaking of taking messy action toward the ideal, toward the goal, toward the envisioned dream future because it will FEEL like risk, but it’s just action. Risk can and should be viewed as a positive tool when used to fulfill one’s dreams and goals. Sometimes, just talking through the perceived risk can help it feel less “risky”.
