Today we’d like to introduce you to Jhamasa Lewis-Adams.
Jhamasa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Orange, California April 24, 1990. Although I moved around as a youth, I spent most of her childhood in Los Angeles, CA. She has many siblings (bio + foster)and considers herself apart of large community that is seen as family. I was a student of Black Eyed Pea’s Peapod Music and Arts Academy located at the Boys and Girls Club in Watts, CA. I also attended Brentwood College Preparatory School in Brentwood, CA where she graduated from in 2008.
I went on to get my B.A. in Entrepreneurship from Jackson State University in 2013. I continue to enhance her skills in various forms of art and education; currently, I’m earning my masters in social work at University of Southern California. In 2016 I released her first EP 24K. Most recently, I have been working on my 2nd independent EP, Eleven:11. In my free time, I advocate for educational and civil rights for foster youth.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has certainly not been a smooth road. Being a former foster youth, I have certain responsibilities that the average person doesn’t even consider. Housing stability being one of them. As an artist finding my tribe and community has been the biggest struggle. I have persevered and focused on moving forward learning lessons
So, as you know, we’re impressed with J H A M A S A – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
As an independent artist and business, I am most recognized for my creativity. As a company, we are most proud of our work ethic and quality of execution. What sets us apart from other companies is determination and resilience. Many times we have ran into momentary dilemmas and our persistence and creativity is what landed us results.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, I hope to expand. I want to lead in creative direction and be known for treating people exceptionally well that I work with. I’m looking forward to creating my new project. It’s a process that involves self-work and different art explorations.
